Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? is the English title of the light novel series originally titled Danjon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darō ka, or DanMachi for short. Written by Fujino Ōmori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda, DanMachi is credited as one of the best-written and funniest fantasy series in recent years. The series has been adapted into an anime series, whose fourth season is set to premiere in 2022.
The fourth season of DanMachi was confirmed officially on January 31, 2021. It was also officially revealed that the main staff from the previous seasons would be reprising their roles for Season 4. In May 2022, it has been revealed that DanMachi Season 4 would premiere on July 22, 2022. The season is expected to have around 12 episodes.
The rest of this article is going to bring you all the known and unknown information related to the upcoming season two of DanMachi. You’re going to find out about its potential release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, and much more about this successful anime series.
DanMachi Season 4 release date
Debuting on the big screens in 2015, DanMachi has become one of the largest fantasy anime franchises of the modern era. Since 2015, several seasons of the show have been released, including three OVA episodes, a movie, and a spin-off anime series. This is the general structure of the works released so far:
- DanMachi Season 1 (2015)
- “Is It Wrong to Expect a Hot Spring in a Dungeon?” (OVA, 2016)
- Sword Oratoria (2017)
- Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Arrow of the Orion (movie, 2019)
- DanMachi Season 2 (2019)
- “Is It Wrong to go Searching for Herbs on a Deserted Island?” (OVA, 2020)
- DanMachi Season 3 (2020)
- “Is It Wrong to Try to Find a Hot Spring in Orario? -Bath God Forever-” (OVA, 2021)
Save for 2018, a DanMachi work has been released each year since 2015. Now, 2022 is not going to be an exception, since the very popular anime series is officially coming back in 2022. This has been officially confirmed in January 2021, when Warner Bros. Japan and the staff of the anime have confirmed the continuation of the series. A visual has been released in January 2022, revealing more details about Season 4:
Since the announcement, not much information had been revealed about the upcoming fourth season until May 2022. We knew that DanMachi Season 4 was going to adapt the “Labyrinth Arc” and that the cast and crew are going to return, but no release window had been provided until May 2022. We know it is going to be sometime in 2022, and we expected that the Fall and Winter seasons were the most likely periods. But, things changed in May 2022.
Namely, in May 2022, it was leaked that the fourth season of DanMachi would premiere on July 22, 2022, during the Summer Season. This was somewhat quicker than we had originally anticipated, but we’re quite happy that our forecasts had been wrong. So, DanMachi Season 4 is coming up quite soon and we’re quite excited about it.
DanMachi Season 4 trailer
Taking into account everything we know about the upcoming Season of DanMachi we can confirm that we have a total of three trailers for the upcoming Season 4, albeit none of them have given us an official release date. The first official trailer was released on January 31, 2021:
A second trailer, with some additional scenes, was released on January 4, 2022. You can check it out here:
Another teaser trailer was released on February 15, 2022. It was similar to the second trailer for the show:
So, as of March 2022, we have had three trailers for the fourth season of DanMachi. These trailers have given us some insight into what we could expect for Season 4, but we still haven’t gotten a release window. This probably means that another trailer is set to appear several months before the premiere. And we were, once again, proven correct here, as another trailer was released on May 22, 2022 and you can check it out here as well:
DanMachi Season 4 plot
We know that Season 4 of DanMachi is going to adapt the “Labyrinth Arc.” In this section, we are going to give you a brief synopsis of the arc so that you can know what to expect.
At the Hestia Familia home, Hestia gleefully updated Bell’s status, feeling like she was filling blank pages of a storybook with each update and witnessing any changes firsthand. Once she finished, she informed her child that she had leveled up. While the members of Bell’s group were in the dungeon, the maids at the Hostess of Fertility were busy looking for Ryuu, who had disappeared after leaving a letter.
Chloe, who knew about Ryuu’s past, began to speculate on what might have happened, though she was soon silenced by Lunoire who was worried about how Syr would react. As the two Cat People waitresses began blaming Bell, Mia appeared, yelling at the girls to get back to work. Now alone, Syr asked Mia about that matter, though Mia simply said that if Syr didn’t know anything, then she wouldn’t either, adding that Ryuu was troublesome.
Elsewhere, Ryuu recalled his time at the Hostess of Fertility, but admitted that it was not enough to heal his wounds, knowing that the black flames of revenge still burned in her heart. Unfortunately, those flames once again burned with joy as she encountered members of Evilus, causing her to ignore the voices of her allies as she pursued them.
In the Guild Prayer Room, Ouranos sensed and mentioned that “it” had started acting up, looking down at the floor below him, prompting Fels to ask through the occulus if it was the Juggernaut. The God confirmed this, stating that he was heading lower and lower at incredible speed, adding that the Monster Rex had appeared in the Water City. When asked what he was going to do, Ouranos said that he would send reinforcements, promising to try every means possible, even if it ended up being a wasted effort.
At the Hostess of Fertility, Ryuu’s cup fell to the ground, a piece severing Syr’s finger in the process. Seeing this, Syr left the bar through the back door, and Anya, Chloe Rollo, and Lunoire Faust complained that the gloomy mood was Ryuu’s fault. Moments later, Hestia arrived, asking if they were best friends with High Elf Archer, and then asked if they were strong.
Wondering what she was talking about, they asked her to explain herself, causing the Goddess to hand them the letter she had received from Lili. At the Hestia Familia home forge, Tsubaki noticed that a crack had appeared on the hammer she was using, wondering if she had heated it too much and if she would take the blame for it. However, after muttering about it for a moment, she wondered if it was a sign that something was wrong. Just then, Miach and Naaza arrived, asking her if she would listen to her request.
DanMachi Season 4 cast
The main cast and crew of DanMachi are set to return for Season 4, that much has been confirmed. Some new faces are certainly set to appear as well, but the core crew members are going to return. Where to watch DanMachi Season 4?
The first three seasons of the show are available on Crunchyroll (in subbed format). Since Crunchyroll is the largest provider of anime for the Western market, we have no doubt that DanMachi Season 4 will appear on the service as well. We just don’t know whether a dub will be released simultaneously or not, but we think that it will.
Will there be a DanMachi Season 5?
At this moment, it is definitely too early to discuss a potential fifth season of DanMachi, since we don’t even know officially when the fourth season is going to air (okay, we know it’s going to be this year, but we don’t have a date yet!), but there are some great indicators that DanMachi might actually return even after the upcoming fourth season.
Namely, DanMachi is an ongoing series and is still nowhere near its completion, as far as the light novel series is concerned, and the seasons probably won’t have a large number of episodes, which means that the producers have more space for new seasons. The current anime franchise hasn’t even adapted the whole story so far, and there are still future volumes that await us.
Seeing how DanMachi maintains a consistent level of popularity both in Japan and around the world, how well it is doing, as well as taking into consideration the fact that the anime hasn’t adapted the whole story (the series is still ongoing, so there’ll be a lot of new material to adapt in the future, alongside the already-existing one that has not been adapted yet), we know that the upcoming second season won’t wrap things up, meaning that a fifth season is looking very good from where we’re standing.
Still, this is just pure speculation. We don’t know whether DanMachi will continue to get adapted and we’ll have to wait for some official news to actually confirm out predictions.
