David Harbour Hints at Major MCU Changes with the Release of ‘Thunderbolts*’: “It fundamentally changes the course”
This year’s SDCC was packed with surprises, with the most significant announcements from Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation focusing on the ‘Avengers’ franchise. However, ‘Thunderbolts’ fans also got a glimpse of what’s to come.
Scheduled for release on May 5, 2025, ‘Thunderbolts*’ has revealed only a few details so far: the core team of outcasts and the introduction of Sentry into the MCU.
During the presentation, the highlight was undoubtedly the exclusive footage. The clip begins with Yelena visiting Alexei’s cluttered apartment and questioning his sense of fulfillment. Set to a dramatic version of the Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind,” the footage shows the Thunderbolts on the same mission but ultimately clashing with each other. It also introduces a character named “Bob” (played by Pullman as Sentry) in a hospital gown before the clip ends.
Kevin Feige confirmed once again that the team will not be named after Thaddeus Ross. The cast described the Thunderbolts as a struggling group that is reluctant to work together.
After the reveal, ComicBook spoke with David Harbour, who plays Red Guardian, and he hinted that the upcoming movie will “fundamentally change” the MCU.
Our characters are going to interact with something that we don’t really understand, and it fundamentally changes the course of the way things expand. That’s all I’m saying. Oh my God, I’m getting calls tomorrow.
Given the enigmatic nature of the Multiverse Saga, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what Harbour might be referring to. However, he is likely alluding to Sentry—one of Marvel’s most powerful characters and his upcoming debut in the MCU. Portrayed by Lewis Pullman, Sentry is rumored to have the ability to shapeshift, though this might actually refer to molecular manipulation.
Sentry’s arrival is set to significantly impact the MCU, raising questions about how the Thunderbolts will handle him. With his seemingly limitless powers facing off against enhanced humans, it’s been suggested that Sentry might have a no-kill rule in the MCU, potentially giving the Thunderbolts some plot armor.
