DC Movie ‘Blue Beetle’ Will Be Released In Theaters In 2023
DC movie Blue Beetle was announced last year as the HBOMax exclusive. WarnerMedia announced earlier this year that two DC movies – Batgirl and Blue Beetle – are in development and they’re aiming to release them exclusively on the streaming service.
But, that’s about the change. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blue Beetle will have a regular theatrical release after all, and it will be released on August 18, 2023. Angel Manuel Soto is on board to direct the movie, and Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña will play the titular role.
Ever since HBOMax launched in May 2020, Warner Bros. wanted to increase the amount of content, and since DC is one of their most known franchise, it’s their best trump to compete with other streaming services.
Wonder Woman 1984 was released simultaneously on HBOMax and in theaters last Christmas due to the pandemic, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League was released in March 2021. DC shows like Titans, Doom Patrol, and animated series Harley Quinn were all moved to HBOMax upon its launch, and the streamer is developing the upcoming seasons of the mentioned shows.
Batgirl movie is currently in production and it’s still set to debut exclusively on HBOMax next year. Blue Beetle is set to start production soon, and it’s a good thing we’ll be able to see it on the big screen. The first concept arts of both movies were revealed on DC FanDome last October.
Due to the pandemic, Warner Bros. released all of their movies in theaters and on HBOMax simultaneously. Next year, they’re bringing back the regular theatrical release, and movies will land on the streaming service at least 45 days after the premiere in theaters. Disney is using the same way of releasing movies since last summer.
