In early 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran introduced their rebooted universe named DCU, unveiling a comprehensive lineup of projects. The most recent release in the DCEU was ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ last year, which achieved some success, especially compared to many MCU films from that year that struggled with critics and box office performance.

In January, Gunn and Safran revealed the initial projects of the DCU lineup and announced the team of writers responsible for crafting the overarching story: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson, Christal Henry, and Tom King. They outlined a plan spanning eight to ten years, divided into “chapters,” with potential for further expansion. The first chapter, ‘Gods and Monsters,’ featured films like ‘Superman’ (originally titled ‘Superman: Legacy’), ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing,’ alongside television series such as ‘Creature Commandos,’ ‘Waller,’ ‘Lanterns,’ ‘Paradise Lost,’ and ‘Booster Gold.’

James Gunn recently confirmed that several scripts have been completed, but he didn’t specify which projects they are for. He also mentioned that he wasn’t involved in writing all of these completed scripts. Currently, we know that the scripts for ‘Superman,’ ‘Creature Commandos,’ ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, and ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ have been finished. Notable scooper and leaker Daniel Richtman confirmed that the completed scripts in question are for ‘Lanterns’ and ‘Waller.’

‘Waller’ is set to commence filming this year, scheduled alongside the production of the second season of ‘Peacemaker.’ The development of ‘Waller’ was confirmed in 2022 as a spinoff of ‘Peacemaker,’ with Viola Davis returning to portray the titular character. Recently, it was revealed that the show will depart from the comedic tone of ‘Peacemaker’ as Waller’s character is more serious, and the series aims to reflect that tone.

Regarding ‘Lanterns,’ little information is available about the project other than it will be a cosmic detective story. The show will feature three notable Green Lanterns: Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner. Nathan Fillion has been confirmed to portray Guy Gardner, but the actor for John Stewart is still unknown.
