The Demons of Demon Slayer are a truly fascinating lot. They come in all shapes and sizes, and while they are evil in their demonic form, their backstories and their lives while they were human usually contain a tragic note that makes you sad for them. But there are also exceptions, and one such exception is the protagonist of this article – Nakime. The Upper-Rank Four of the Twelve Kizuki who succeeded Hantengu, Nakime was a very peculiar Demon who had a very unique ability that was not necessarily powerful but was very useful to Muzan Kibutsuji, the Demon King. Still, she was killed like the rest of them, and in this article, we are going to tell you who did it and why.

Nakime became the last surviving Upper Rank after Kokushibō‘s defeat, and she remained in control of the Infinity Castle while Muzan was fighting the Demon Slayers. But, at one point, Yushiro managed to take control of Nakime and, with it, the Castle as well, using it to defeat Muzan. Knowing that he could not fight both Nakime and the Demon Slayers, Muzan personally crushed her head and sacrificed her and the Castle to fight the Corps.

The rest of this article will focus on Nakime and her death in the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba series. Nakime is a villainess but an exceptionally important and very peculiar character. Her death was a complex and intriguing process, so we have decided to dedicate this whole article to her and her death. This article will contain some spoilers from the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga, so be careful how you approach it.

Muzan sacrificed Nakime to save his own skin

After Tanjirō killed Hantengu, Nakime was promoted to the new Upper-Rank Four by Muzan. Nakime was not a powerful Demon by any means in terms of her fighting skills, but the biwa-playing Demon had the ability to control Muzan’s Infinity Castle, as well as manipulate the space of the castle, which enabled her to control everyone inside it as well.

This is why she was exceptionally difficult to defeat and why the Demons had a nominal advantage within the Castle’s walls. But, the Corps and their allies actually found a way to capitalize on Nakime’s powers and use them to their own advantage, i.e., against Muzan and the Demons.

Namely, after Akaza, Dōma, and Kokushibō as well all fell to the Demon Slayers, Nakime and Muzan remained as the only Demons alive in the Castle, with Nakime being the last remaining member of the Twelve Kizuki.

Nakime initially used her abilities to separate the Demon Slayers, and thanks to her space-manipulating powers, she would have been able to use the Castle’s structures to kill them as she wanted. Obanai and Mitsuri were the first Demon Slayers to find Nakime, but they couldn’t really harm her because she could control the Castle as she wanted. Later, when Tanjirō and Tomioka faced Muzan, the Demon King boasted that Nakime had killed both Obanai and Mitsuri with her rooms, taunting the Demon Slayers.

But, Muzan was shocked when the supposedly-dead Demon Slayers launched a surprise attack on him, confirming that they were both alive. Muzan was furious, and he demanded to know what Nakime was doing, but then he realized that Nakime was not under his control anymore and that he was in trouble. Namely, Muzan discovered that Yushirō, the young Demon who accompanied Tamayo, had taken control of Nakime and, with it, control of the Castle as well. Because he loved Tamayo very much, Yushirō promised Muzan that he would wipe him out of existence as an act of revenge for Tamayo’s death.

Realizing that Yushirō controlling Nakime was not good for him, Muzan used his telekinetic powers and began a battle of wills against Yushirō for control over Nakime’s body. At the same time, he was fighting the Demon Slayers. And while Muzan, who was more powerful than Yushirō, managed to regain control over Nakime, he lost focus on the battle and was injured by the Demon Slayer Corps. This, of course, caused him to lose control of Nakime once again, and Yushirō gained the upper hand once more, as Nakime was, once again, under his control.

Muzan and Yushiro fighting over control of Nakime

At that very moment, Muzan realized the following: he would not be able to fight the Demon Slayer Corps and control Nakime at the same time. He knew that the Demon Slayers would have a hard time defeating him, but Yushirō using Nakime to destroy the Castle and Muzan, along with it, was a risk for the Demon King, so he decided to sacrifice Nakime’s life to save his own.

He used his powers to simply crush Nakime’s head into pieces while she was under Yushirō’s control, ultimately killing the Upper-Rank Four and saving Muzan’s skin. Yushirō used Nakime’s powers once more as she was dying to bring the Castle to the surface.

Muzan thus avoided death at the hands of a Yushirō-controlled Nakime, but he showed just how ruthless and vile he was, how he had no respect for his allies, and how loyalty meant absolutely nothing to him, as the only thing that mattered to him was saving his own skin. Nakime was thus dead, and the Twelve Kizuki were no more. The only enemy that the Demon Slayers had to defeat was Muzan, and soon after Nakime’s death, the fateful final duel against Muzan would begin.

Nakime was not a fighter, but her Blood Demon Art was as powerful as it was useful

Now, before we actually end this article, we have decided to tell you a bit about Nakime as well, to determine just why she was so important to Muzan, but also why she was so dangerous, dangerous enough for Muzan to have to sacrifice her to save his own skin because of her powers. As we have stated, Nakime was a miserable fighter. She was physically weak, and it is debatable whether she could even fight at all. On the other hand, she had amazing perception, speed, and reflexes, which made her a very talented Demon in defense. But, the essence of Nakime’s powers was her Blood Demon Art, the Infinity Castle.

Nakime death

Nakime’s Blood Demon Art allows her to create a special extradimensional space called the Infinity Castle. She has absolute dominion over it as it is her own property. This means that she can manipulate the space within however she wants, but also the people within, as she is able to teleport them wherever she wants. She is also able to use the space for offense, as she was able to attack her enemies with some structures within the Castle and the rooms themselves.

The castle is seemingly infinite, as the name suggests, and it has endless rooms that Nakime can use however she wants. It is also a great hiding space, as it is extradimensional, which is why it was the headquarters of the Twelve Kizuki and Muzan himself. The Infinity Castle was both highly dangerous and useful.
