‘Demon Slayer’: Who Does Giyu End Up With?
When discussing Demon Slayer, one usually talks about the demon slayers themselves or the demons. And while the series has offered us a variety of other intriguing characters, we will talk about one specific Demon Slayer – Giyu Tomioka, the current Water Hashira who first found Tanjiro and Nezuko after Muzan’s deadly attack on them – in this particular article. Giyu Tomioka is a peculiar character with an interesting personality, and in this article, we will discuss one aspect of his personal life. Building on that fact, we have decided, in this article, to tell you a bit about his romantic life, as you will find out whether Tomioka ended up with anyone in Demon Slayer.
Giyu Tomioka survived the final battle against Muzan, but the series never revealed any details about his future. A future character named Giichi is certainly related to him, but whether he is a descendant or a reincarnation is not known. He was often shipped with Shinobu, but he certainly did not marry her since she died. So, if Giyu married after Muzan’s downfall, his wife’s identity was never revealed, so we don’t actually know who he ended up with if it’s actually anyone.
The rest of this article will explore the personal life and personality of Giyu Tomioka, one of the most popular characters in the series. We will explore Giyu’s personality in more detail, as well as some of the most popular ships involving him and the characters seen in Demon Slayer. This article won’t contain too many spoilers, but still, be careful how you approach it if you don’t know the whole story.
Giyu Tomioka was a cold and reserved character who did not seem to care too much about romance
Giyu had a quiet demeanor and a perpetual look of seriousness on his face. It was clear that she had a very firm sense of justice and no patience for people who did not know about their personal limitations and who wasted their lives. He broke the rules of the Demon Slayer Corps by protecting Nezuko Kamado after realizing that she might be different from the other demons.
He even agreed to give his life for her and her brother Tanjiro Kamado by committing seppuku if the girl ate a human, despite his intense hatred for demons and his never-ending willingness to kill one.
This suggested that he did not entirely despise demons like the others did and were ready to take a chance by allowing them to survive if they did not kill or eat humans, indicating, in turn, that he was the most reasonable in his approach to dealing with demons as opposed to hating them as the other hunters did.
He was a quiet individual who appeared to struggle with social interaction, thus, he kept his distance from his traveling companions. Due to this, he was concerned about what other people thought of him and refused to accept Shinobu Koch’s assertion that he was despised.
He wishes he could strengthen his bonds with the other Hashira after connecting with those around him. He became more severe after participating in the Final Selection, contributing to his distant demeanor. This affected him so much that he wanted to resign from his role as the Water Hashira. After Tanjiro Kamado explained to him that he shouldn’t live with the guilt of being a survivor instead of for the individuals who gave their lives for him, he came to his senses.
Shinobu Kocho is the only ship we have when Giyu Tomioka is concerned
As you can see, Giyu Tomioka is really not a character who has romance on his mind. Both because he was an introvert and a loner and because he was focused on the task at hand. But, while we don’t really have much to say about him regarding potential ships, we have to say that there was one character he was adamantly shipped with throughout the series – Shinobu Kocho.
Shinobu was the Insect Hashira, and she had a very ruthless personality, despite being a very kind person. She was once teamed up with Giyu to go help Tanjiro during the test, and the two of them seemed to be getting along quite well, with Shinobu also seemingly flirting with Giyu.
Giyu was also liberal enough to stop her from killing Nezuko, and she did not seem to mind that. Aside from that, the series never explored their relationship further, so we don’t know if anything would happen with them in the future, but we do know that they were never a couple. Namely, Shinobu died during her fight with Doma, the Upper-Rank Two, and all chances of a potential relationship disappeared at that moment.
So, did Giyu end up with anyone? We don’t know. The modern-day time skip showed a character called Giichi, who was certainly related to Giyu somehow, but we don’t really know if he is a descendant of his or just a reincarnation.
If it is the latter, then Giyu Tomioka probably never married and lived out the rest of his life like a true loner, which he was in the series. On the other hand, if it was a descendant of his, he must have married at one point, but since the series did not reveal too much information about his future, we don’t really know what happened to the guy and if he actually ended up with someone or not.
There are two possibilities, but based on what we know – we cannot really tell what exactly happened there and how Giyu’s future evolved in the aftermath of that dreaded battle against Muzan, which saw so many beloved characters die.
