Disney Shows Confidence in ‘The Acolyte’ Through One Significant Detail

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is an upcoming Disney+ TV series set in the expansive Star Wars universe. The project has been in discussion since 2019, following the premiere of ‘The Rise of Skywalker,’ when Leslye Headland, a devoted fan of the franchise, expressed her interest.
This series marks the first live-action exploration of the High Republic Era and the second overall within the Star Wars universe. Set approximately 100 years before the events of ‘Episode I: The Phantom Menace,’ ‘The Acolyte’ delves into a lesser-explored period of the Star Wars timeline. Known as the Golden Age of the Jedi, this era signifies the peak of the Jedi Order’s power and influence.
Despite exploring relatively uncharted territory, promotional materials for the show have received mixed reviews, at best. Fans have criticized the focus on female characters, certain timeline details, and the inclusion of Sith. A recent controversy arose over the introduction of the lightwhip into the series.
Additionally, a subtitle blunder inadvertently revealed a major plot twist concerning the villain. Nevertheless, Disney remains confident in the show’s reception. Typically, media outlets are subject to review embargoes, preventing them from publicly discussing a project’s quality until a certain date. The earlier the embargo is lifted, the more indicative it is of the studio’s confidence in the project’s success.
We’re excited to share that the review and social embargoes for ‘The Acolyte’ will be lifted ahead of schedule. The social embargo will end on May 30, followed by the review embargo lifting on June 4.
While the review embargo being lifted on the release date is customary, it’s the social embargo that truly matters as it encourages discussion. Both ‘Andor’ and ‘Ahsoka’ followed similar timelines and turned out to be fantastic shows.
