But one person that has come to mind when it comes to western celebrities and anime is Ariana Grande.

Ariana Grande is one of the biggest pop icons in the world today as she has always been a star. She started her career at the age of 15 when she began appearing in a Broadway musical. After that, she rose to prominence as a teen actress for Nickelodeon before she became popular for covering different songs through her YouTube channel. However, it was when she earned her first single album that Ariana Grande rose as one of the biggest musical icons in the world.

Despite her popularity, Ariana Grande tries to keep herself grounded and has even expressed her love for Japanese culture ever since she learned a few Japanese words during her time as an actress on Victorious. She tried learning Japanese by taking lessons, and this eventually allowed her to like anime.

She was never too vocal about being a fan of anime, considering that there are publicity people who might want to make sure that their clients are saying and doing the right things. Of course, Grande also got bashed several years ago for cultural appropriation and for misspelling a “7 rings” tattoo.

Nevertheless, ever the tattoo collector, Ariana Grande has made sure to make people know that she loves anime because some of her biggest tattoos are anime characters. This is a huge change in the way she handles her tattoos, as she has always been known for tiny and subtle tattoos. The most surprising is that, at that time, she had around 24 tattoos. Most of those tattoos were delicate and too discreet to the point that you wouldn’t even notice them. But the thing about her is that her Chihiro tattoo was the biggest one she had at that time. She tattooed the character on her forearm and even released an Instagram stories statement regarding it.

“Chihiro’s growth into a capable individual is a core factor in the movement of Spirited Away’s plot. During her adventure in the Spirit World, she matures from an easily-scared girl with a child-like personality to match her age to a hard-working, responsible, and brave young girl who has learned to put her fears aside for those she cares for,” Grande said on Instagram.

When the legendary anime artist Michiyo Yasuda passed away a few years ago, Ariana Grande even paid homage to her, saying:

“RIP legendary artist Michiyo Yasuda who brought so many of Miyazaki’s incredible characters to life w her colors. Characters who brought so much color to my life!!”

Ariana Grande also explained what Chihiro from Spirited Away means to her:

“To protect her friends and rescue her parents from a spell that has turned them into livestock, Chihiro sheds her former personality and adapts to her environment to become a courageous, quick-witted and reliable girl.”

On top of the fact that she is a big fan of Spirited Away, Ariana Grande is also a big Pokémon fan. Her favorite Pokémon is Eevee, which is one of the most iconic Pokémon from the company ever since its inception. In fact, Grande had Eevee tattooed on her arm, as this tattoo rivals her Chihiro tattoo in terms of its size. “I’ve wanted this for so long,” she explained after getting the Eevee tattoo.
