Levi Ackerman, often formally referred to as Captain Levi is the squad captain of the Special Operations Squad within the Survey Corps and is widely known as humanity’s strongest soldier. Levi Ackerman is one of the most interesting characters from Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan franchise and his unbelievable strength is something that has made him so special. In this article, we are going to discuss why Levi is so strong and whether he becomes a Titan during the course of the narrative.

As an Ackerman, Levi never became a Titan in Attack on Titan, although there were speculations that he could become one, even though that was highly unlikely. As for his strengths, he was humanity’s strongest soldier because he was trained by his uncle, Kenny Ackerman, and because he inherited the special abilities possessed by the Ackerman clan.

The rest of this article is going to elaborate further on what Levi Ackerman can and cannot do. Levi Ackerman is a character that certainly deserves a lot of attention and in the continuation of this article, we are going to tell you everything you need to know about Levi, his abilities, his strength, and his story in the Attack on Titan anime.

Does Levi become a Titan?

Levi Ackerman is probably one of the most worthy characters to inherit Titan powers, despite the fact that he has actually been fighting Titans his whole life. So, does Levi ever become a Titan during the course of the narrative? He does not. Let us be clear and concise here – Levi Ackerman does not become a Titan during the course of the manga’s main narrative. In the sections that follow, we are going to give you more details about this fact and answer some specific questions.

Can Levi become a Titan?

We know that only subjects of Ymir, i.e., Eldians, can become Titans in Attack on Titan. We have also established that Levi does not become a Titan, so we might ask ourselves – can he even become a Titan in the first place? Although the answer to this question wasn’t fully elaborated either in the manga or in the anime, we’ve come to understand that Levi probably couldn’t even become a Titan in the first place because of his heritage.

Does Mikasa Become a Titan? (& When?)

First of all, Levi’s heritage is a bit undisclosed. We know his mother belongs to the Ackerman clan and while the Ackermans are Eldians and are subjects of Ymir, they seem to be immune to the Titan serum, which is why they probably couldn’t even become Titans in the first place; this is a special ability of the Ackerman clan, present – likewise – in Mikasa Ackerman. Another important factor here is that we don’t know who Levi’s biological father was, which means that he might not be a true Eldian, which would also disqualify him from inheriting Titan powers.

Does Levi turn into the Beast Titan?

Since Levi never actually turns into any Titan, he doesn’t turn into the Beast Titan either. Now, why do people even ask this? The only reason why we think that people are inquiring about Levi and the Beast Titan is the fact that the two have a history. Namely, the Beast Titan is something of an archenemy for Levi and the two have fought several times, with Levi coming out victorious on several occasions.

Will Levi turn into a Titan in the future?

Levi27s caretakers

Luckily for us, the Attack on Titan manga is already finished so we know what happens to Levi and everyone else after the main plot ends. We know that in the three years following the battle at Salta, Levi takes up residence in Marley. His injuries leave him permanently wheelchair-bound and he is attended to by Gabi and Falco, which means that he never did turn into a Titan. Also, and this is also noteworthy, we know that the Titans disappeared after Eren’s death, which means that there was no way for Levi to become a Titan in the future in the first place.

Why is Levi so strong?

Levi Ackerman was introduced as the humans’ strongest warrior in the “Captain Levi” side story that forms part of the Attack on Titan canon. There are two principal reasons for this. The first one is that he was trained by Kenny Ackerman, his uncle, who was a formidable fighter and who taught Levi how to fight. The second one is related to the fact that Levi is an Ackerman, which means that he possesses the special “Awakened Power”, which we are going to talk about in the next section.

What are Levi’s powers?

In this section, we are going to give you more details on Levi’s powers and abilities, as we’ve seen them in the manga and anime:

Vertical Maneuvering Equipment

Levi is so good at VME that everyone says he’s the best at it. He demonstrated his fighting ability by incapacitating the Female Titan. By moving too fast, Levi was depriving Annie of any opportunity to defend herself. This could not be done by entire squads and even Eren Yeager in his Titan form. Levi defeated Zeke in his Titan form. The second, in turn, is one of the strongest warriors in the Marley army and an extremely powerful Titan.

Levi shreds the Beast Titan

Levi unexpectedly attacked Zeke, getting too close before he noticed, despite the lack of trees and buildings. With his blades, he literally cut the Titan’s hand into pieces with such speed that they fell to the ground one after another. Thus, he once again proved that he is able to overcome the power of the Titans one on one, and his VME at such moments is used to the maximum.

Levi again defeated Zeke in the forest area. Even after losing several fingers in the explosion, he was still able to use the equipment with almost the same ease as before. Levi is so indispensable that he is worth an entire squad of elite soldiers. Rumor has it that he was considered extremely strong even before joining the Survey Corps.

Levi possesses great physical strength, which is undoubtedly evidenced by his possession of VME. Despite his small stature, his body and musculature are well developed, making him very strong in combat. Levi even “intercepts” one of Annie’s Titan attacks using her arm before she could attack Mikasa. But even with strength and agility, Levi, like everyone else, is quite susceptible to injury. Even after battling several Titans, one punch from Levi on Eren’s left cheek is enough to break all the teeth on the left side of his face.

Awakened power

As a member of the Ackerman clan, Levi “awakened” a dormant power within himself early in his life, which he describes as “knowing exactly what to do”. Like all Ackermans, he is not subject to memory erasure and is immune to Titan serum.

Thunder Spears

Levi seems to dislike using Thunder Spears, as he does not carry them during the Rebelio Ghetto raid, unlike the other members of the Survey Corps. However, he is good at dealing with them. These skills allowed him to pull Zeke out of the back of the Titan’s head as he tried to leave the forest.

Levi was seen using an “unusual fighting style”. He holds his right sword in his left hand with the blade outward, which is behind him instead of in front of him. Thus, the blades form a kind of “circle” around it. It grants the ability to use spin and other spin attacks, allowing Levi to maintain incredible speed and agility during combat.

Is Levi Dead in Attack on Titan? (& What Happens to Him)

At the same time, it helps him maintain energy without wasting stamina and strength, while still allowing him to fight for a longer period of time and destroy multiple targets at the same time. This technique may have been inspired by knife lessons learned from Kenny at an early age.

In addition to his extraordinary combat prowess, Levi has demonstrated the ability to quickly analyze situations and make informed decisions in the heat of battle. This allowed him to save himself and his comrades more than once. For example, when he realizes that Annie is not easy to kill due to her individual ability – crystallization – or while fighting Kenny in a bar, using chairs, a double-barreled shotgun, and even corpses to stop his opponents. However, Levi admits that a person cannot always be right, and some “turns of events” are beyond understanding.
