We all know that the entire storyline of Record of Ragnarök revolves around the fight between the gods and the humans to decide whether humanity gets to live on. That means that some of the most prominent gods in history participate in the tournament, including Shiva. In Hindu myth, Shiva is one of the most revered gods, as he is the god of destruction. So, does Shiva lose in the Record of Ragnarök?

Shiva does not lose in the Record of Ragnarök. He took part in a fight with Raiden Tameemon and ended up using his Dance of Destruction form to defeat the legendary sumo wrestler. While Shiva won in his fight, he was down to only one good arm and was forced to push his body to the limit.

Even though we know that gods are basically some of the strongest beings in the entire history of mythology, we also know that the humans that were chosen to fight in the Ragnarök tournament are some of the strongest humans in existence as well. So, with that said, let’s look at who Shiva fights and whether or not he loses in his fight in Record of Ragnarök.

Who Is Shiva In Record Of Ragnarok?

There are a lot of different gods that we know can be found in Record of Ragnarök, considering that the entire storyline revolves around the gods and their desire to wipe out humanity from existence. In that regard, some of the most prominent gods in history take part as fighters in the Ragnarök tournament to defeat humanity and end humankind’s existence by winning the tournament.

One god that we met early on was Shiva due to his importance to the Hindu pantheon of gods. We met him in season 1 as he was supposed to take part in the second round against Adam, only for Zeus to take his place instead. However, in season 2, Shiva finally took the stage when he appeared in the fifth round as the representative of the gods. So, who is Shiva in Record of Ragnarök?

As mentioned, Shiva is one of the most important gods in Hindu culture. He is revered as the Hindu god of destruction and is the one responsible for destroying and reshaping the world. In the series, he was a happy-go-lucky god that simply loved dancing and hanging out with his best friend, Rudra. However, because Rudra wanted to rise to the top of the Hindu pantheon of gods together, Shiva joined him in their quest to defeat all of the other gods.

But because only one god could rise higher than the others, Shiva was forced to fight Rudra. His victory against his best friend allowed Shiva to become the top Hindu god. And he was described to be the greatest brawler among all of the different gods that took part in the Ragnarök tournament.

Who Did Shiva Fight?

After Zeus took his place in the second round, Shiva finally got his chance to show off his strength by appearing in the fifth round. But before he took center stage, he already knew who he was fighting. That’s because Brunhilde decided to field Raiden Tameemon, the strongest sumo wrestler in the history of Japan, to represent humanity in the fifth round.

While Raiden is known to be one of the greatest sumo wrestlers in history, his story was a bit embellished in Record or Ragnarök. He was born with a condition called hypertrophy, which forced his muscles to grow out of proportion to the point that they were strong enough to tear his entire body apart. However, because he learned how to control his muscles, he ended up surviving his condition but was still far stronger than any other human being.

With that, Raiden got into sumo wrestling because it was the best way for him to support his family financially. Learning the techniques of sumo allowed him to use his strength incredibly well despite the fact that he was never able to use his full strength. But things were different in the Ragnarök tournament because he was finally able to unleash his muscles.

In the fight against Shiva, he used the Valkyrie named Trud to perform Volundr, allowing him to obtain a divine weapon controlling his muscles. Using this divine weapon, he was allowed to unleash the full strength of his muscles without destroying his body. That was why he was more than a match for Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction.

Did Shiva Lose In Record Of Ragnarok?

In his brawl with Raiden, Shiva was on the losing end at first because the sumo wrestler showed techniques and a level of strength that the god of destruction had never seen before. He was on the losing end because he actually lost one of his four arms early. Then, when Raiden unleashed his Yatagarasu technique, Shiva nearly lost when he blocked the attack and lost two more arms. But the other gods in the stands realized that Shiva would have been killed if he had been hit cleanly by that attack.

Nevertheless, despite fighting on a handicap after losing three of his four arms, Shiva activated his most serious mode by tapping into his inner god of destruction. He manually increased his heart rate and entered into his Dance of Destruction, which was powerful enough to allow Shiva’s movements to produce flames. On top of that, his dance was so graceful that it confused Raiden.

Nevertheless, the sumo wrestler endured and prepared himself for one more attack that would decide the outcome of the round. Shiva also knew that he had to match Raiden’s attack. With that, Shiva’s kick met Raiden’s Yatagarasu palm strike and won by destroying Raiden’s right arm.

Knowing that he had lost, Raiden accepted his fate proudly as he understood that he was about to die. Nevertheless, he took pride in the fact that he could finally unleash his muscles’ full potential after spending an entire life limiting himself. He also died realizing how fun sumo was as Shiva won the fight by using a kick to decapitate Raiden cleanly.

Shiva’s victory allowed the gods to go up 3-2 in the Ragnarök tournament after five intense rounds. However, while he did win that fight, he had to fight at his full strength, which was something he was never able to do against the other Hindu gods.
