‘Dragon Ball’: Xeno Goku Is Not Canon! Here’s What You Need To Know About This Alternate Goku

Share:

There are a lot of different characters in ‘Dragon Ball,’ and Goku has almost always been at the center of it all. Of course, while we know that there is only one Goku in the ‘Dragon Ball’ universe, there exist other timelines that aren’t part of the main ‘Dragon Ball’ timeline. This is where the character called Xeno Goku comes in as one of the different versions of Son Goku himself. But the thing about Xeno Goku is that he isn’t canon to the ‘Dragon Ball’ storyline, and here’s why.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Xeno Goku is the name of the alternate version of Goku who went on to become a member of Time Patrol and helped Xeno Trunks and the other Time Agents prevent villains from interfering with time.
  • This version of Goku was actually the one who was featured in the non-canon ‘Dragon Ball’ movies during the original ‘Dragon Ball Z’ series and was also the very same Goku in ‘Dragon Ball GT.’

Who is Xeno Goku?

There are some people who are confused by the fact that there are two continuations to the ‘Dragon Ball Z’ storyline. Of course, those who grew up in the 90s would know that ‘Dragon Ball GT’ followed the events of the Buu Saga and featured a continuation story that takes place years after the defeat of Kid Buu. On the other hand, we know that Akira Toriyama decided to continue the ‘Dragon Ball’ manga and anime to give birth to ‘Dragon Ball Super.’

Of course, the confusion arises due to the fact that ‘GT’ and ‘Super’ have very different storylines despite the fact that they still feature Goku and the rest of the main cast of the ‘Dragon Ball’ anime. This is where Xeno Goku comes in as one of the versions of Goku that is different from the main one.

Xeno Goku is basically the version of Goku that is featured in the ‘Dragon Ball Heroes’ anime. He is a member of Time Patrol, which is an organization dedicated to going to different timelines to stop villains from messing up with time. Of course, Xeno Goku also has the same history as the regular Goku.

Just like the regular version of Goku, Xeno Goku went on to experience the same things that he did in the sense that he went through the Frieza, Cell, and Buu Sagas. However, Xeno Goku was the version of Goku who was featured in the ‘Dragon Ball Z’ movies before the events of ‘Dragon Ball Super.’

On top of that, Xeno Goku was also the very same Goku who experienced the events of ‘Dragon Ball GT,’ where he unlocked Super Saiyan 4 and battled with the evil dragons of the Black Star Dragon Balls. In other words, he is the Goku who existed before the events of the ‘Dragon Ball Super’ manga and anime.

In the manga, Xeno Goku ended up getting summoned by Chronoa from his timeline so that he could assist Xeno Trunks in dealing with the problems associated with the evil-doers messing up with the timeline. That was how Xeno Goku and Xeno Trunks started working together as part of Time Patrol.

Xeno Goku is from an alternate timeline

Now, we know that Xeno Goku has appeared in movies, video games, and even anime series. However, one of the things that fans should know about him is that he isn’t actually the canon version of Goku, despite the similarities between the two. The very reason why Xeno Goku isn’t canon is the fact that he was never written or created by Akira Toriyama, the creator of the entire ‘Dragon Ball.’

The events of ‘Dragon Ball GT’ and the different ‘Dragon Ball Z’ movies were also never canon to the grander storyline of ‘Dragon Ball’ due to the fact that Toriyama wasn’t involved in those storylines. So, as far as everyone is concerned, Xeno Goku is simply a version of Goku from a different timeline where things happened differently.

It is also worth mentioning that Xeno Goku never experienced the events of ‘Dragon Ball Super,’ which is the canon storyline of ‘Dragon Ball.’ Instead, the timeline that he experienced was the one that went directly from the Buu Saga to the events of ‘Dragon Ball GT.’ As we all know, ‘GT’ was never canon as well.

Yes, it is normal to be confused regarding the different alternate timelines of ‘Dragon Ball.’ But the important part to remember here is that Xeno Goku is the non-canon version of Goku who went on to appear in the non-canon ‘Dragon Ball’ storylines, including the ‘Dragon Ball Z’ movies, ‘Dragon Bal GT, and ‘Dragon Ball Heroes.’ On the other hand, the main Goku was the one who was in ‘Dragon Ball Z’ and ‘Dragon Ball Super.’

Is Xeno Goku stronger than Goku?

One of the things that fans often wonder is whether or not Xeno Goku is stronger than Goku because his experiences seem to be different. On top of that, Xeno Goku even awakened Super Saiyan 4, which was his final transformation in ‘Dragon Ball GT.’

In the ‘Dragon Ball Heroes’ anime, Xeno Goku and the main Goku actually met one another. However, Xeno Goku was unaware of the transformations that Goku had when they clashed with one another. Xeno Goku’s Super Saiyan 4 was more than enough to actually fight Super Saiyan Blue Goku. The fight was never concluded, and it was clear that they were both just as strong as one another.

However, because we know that Goku has now unlocked the many different forms of Ultra Instinct, it is safe to say that he has surpassed Xeno Goku, whose strongest form was Super Saiyan 4. But under normal circumstances, they should be right around the same power level, especially when they are in their base forms.
