“Two Episodes of Nothing Happening, But At Least We Have Pronouns”: Fans Disappointed With Acolyte’s Episode 4

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ released its fourth episode, but the pacing issues persist. Episode 3 was highly controversial, primarily due to the introduction of the Witches of Brendok, a coven of Force-users who allegedly conceived a child using the Force.

In episode 4, Mae lands on the densely forested planet of Khofar in search of Jedi Master Kelnacca, her next target to gain favor with her Sith Master. Meanwhile, the Jedi on Coruscant are organizing a search party to find both Kelnacca and Mae.

Proceed with caution if you haven’t watched this week’s episode yet, as the rest of the article contains spoilers.

Not much happens for the majority of the episode. Mae hesitates to kill Kelnacca without a weapon and eventually abandons Qimir. I hope he isn’t the Sith in question, as that would be the worst-kept “secret” in Star Wars history. Meanwhile, the Jedi slowly realize there’s a dark presence on the planet, and that’s about it—35+ minutes of wandering around Khofar. The episode ends on a cliffhanger with Mae finding Kelnacca’s dead body, the Jedi assuming she killed him, and Mae’s master finally confronting them in the jungle, revealing his existence.

This development breaks lore significantly, depending on how Episode 5 starts and resolves. Fans are furious once again, due to the pacing, writing, premise, and the show’s inclusion of pronouns, with Osha referring to Bazil as “they.”

Is He or They, with us?

However, what fans took the most issue with was the appearance of the prequel character Ki-Adi-Mundi, who shows up in the series despite his species not having such a long lifespan. Here are some of the reactions on social media to the latest episode of Acolyte:
