First Look at Sam Wilson’s Fresh Captain America Suit: A Clear Departure from the Classic, and Definitely an Upgrade

Throughout the development of ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ the updates we received were mostly concerning. Reports suggested extensive reshoots were required due to subpar action sequences and lackluster chemistry between the lead and the love interest.
However, during the 2024 CinemaCon, footage from the film was unveiled, depicting Sam Wilson as Captain America working to rebuild the Avengers and facing off against Harrison’s Ford Thunderbolt Ross. This revelation has sparked excitement for the movie.
In the clip, Sam Wilson meets President Thunderbolt Ross at the White House, who suggests reassembling the Avengers with Sam as their new Captain America. However, there are suggestions that Ross might have hidden intentions. A meeting is interrupted by a mysterious villain who takes charge, resulting in intense action scenes where Sam defends himself against Secret Service agents. Sam and Joaquín Torres join forces in these sequences, leading to a climactic showdown between Sam and Ross. Sam recognizes he’s not Steve Rogers before putting on the new silver and blue Captain America suit.
In the finale of ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,’ Sam steps into the role of Captain America wearing the classic white and blue costume from the comics. However, in his first MCU movie as the lead, he’ll sport a different, more traditional dark blue Captain America suit.
This change brings several benefits. Firstly, the old costume’s color scheme is closely associated with Steve Rogers, which may hinder acceptance of Sam as the new Captain America, despite its comic accuracy. By adopting a new suit in a darker color scheme, Sam gains a fresh visual identity that fans can connect with, while still honoring the character’s overall theme.
Furthermore, the darker color scheme of the suit may indirectly reflect the tone of the upcoming movie. Mackie confirmed that the next Captain America film, as unveiled in CinemaCon footage, will resemble a grounded action thriller like ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier.’ This hints at a move towards a more realistic atmosphere. Considering Chris Evans sported a dark blue tactical suit in ‘The Winter Soldier,’ Sam Wilson’s costume change could align with this more down-to-earth approach for the new film—a much-needed shift following a series of Multiversal disappointments.
