Former ‘Blade’ Director Reportedly Booted Beacuse Ali Found Him “Difficult To Work With”
Less than two weeks ago, we noted dissatisfaction among key figures involved in the upcoming ‘Blade’ reboot production. Compounding issues, Mahershala Ali is currently in talks to join the ‘Jurassic World’ franchise with speculation from fans suggesting he may depart ‘Blade’ due to “scheduling issues.”
However, it came as no surprise when the director chose to depart first. As regular followers of our updates know, Yan Demange, the film’s director, has exited the project. The departure was described as amicable by insiders.
The latest developments come from Jeff Sneider, a respected industry insider. He reports that Mahershala Ali grew frustrated with the director, alleging that Demange was challenging to collaborate with.
Demange actually departed the project several months ago, specifically in March, and efforts have been ongoing to find a replacement director since then. Amidst turnover in the writing team, Michael Green and Eric Pearson are now finalizing the current storyline. Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Victoria Alonso are listed as producers, along with Bassam Tariq.
Reportedly, Ali nearly walked away from the project multiple times. With several changes in writers, many speculate that he might be the root of the production delays. It’s understandable that an Academy Award winner wouldn’t be satisfied with Marvel’s current scripts.
Originally, the script was set to feature Blade’s daughter as the main character, with Blade himself taking a secondary role. However, recent reports indicate a shift towards a storyline focused on Blade hunting vampires, with the Ebony Blade making an appearance.
There have been recent reports hinting at the development of a ‘Midnight Sons’ movie. The ‘Blade’ reboot was intended to set up this larger project, but now it seems likely that the ‘Blade’ reboot may never come to fruition.
