MCU’s ‘Blade’ Director Leaves Production Amid Reported Issues: “Mahershala Ali Most Is Most Likely Next”

One highly anticipated Marvel Studios project that faced issues long before the strikes is ‘Blade.’ This MCU movie follows Eric Brooks, the famous vampire hunter, and is a reboot of the popular ‘Blade’ trilogy that helped pave the way for the current MCU.

The problems with ‘Blade’ have been numerous. The movie’s star, Mahershala Ali, pitched the idea to the studio a long time ago and was officially announced as Blade in 2018. Since then, the movie has faced constant script issues and has gone through several writers during its development.

Less than two weeks ago, we reported dissatisfaction among key players regarding the script and the current state of the movie. Adding to the challenges, Mahershala Ali is currently in discussions with Universal to join the ‘Jurassic World’ franchise. Fans speculate Ali may depart first, citing “scheduling issues.”

However, it’s not surprising that the director has exited first. According to ‘The Wrap,’ Yann Demange is no longer attached to the project. The director of ‘Lovecraft Country’ has stepped away from ‘Blade,’ with insiders describing the departure as amicable.

Demange rarely discussed the movie; the last we heard was his excitement and satisfaction with its progress, emphasizing the importance of maintaining ‘Blade’s “R” rating. That was over six months ago, and clearly, circumstances have since changed dramatically.

There have been reports that Ali nearly left the project several times. With multiple changes in writers, many speculate he may be the main issue slowing down production. It’s understandable that an Academy Award winner wouldn’t be satisfied with whatever incomplete scripts Marvel’s writers are currently producing.

Originally, reports indicated the script would feature Blade’s daughter as the main character, with Blade himself taking a supporting role. However, recent updates suggest the focus has shifted back to Blade as the main protagonist, primarily hunting vampires. Additionally, it’s confirmed that the Ebony Blade will appear in the film.

Recently, there have been resurfacing reports hinting at the development of a ‘Midnight Sons’ movie. Allegedly, the ‘Blade’ reboot was intended to set the stage for this project, but there’s a growing possibility that the ‘Blade’ reboot may never come to fruition.
