The official start of the DCU is just days away, kicking off on December 5th with the release of Creature Commandos. After the first season of Peacemaker, Amanda Waller can no longer risk human lives for her covert missions, as she did with the Suicide Squad and Team Peacemaker.
In response, she forms a black ops team of monsters known as the Creature Commandos, led by General Rick Flag Sr. These operations are overseen by A.R.G.U.S., a U.S. government agency under Waller’s leadership.
A.R.G.U.S. collaborates with the CIA and FBI, employing superpowered or highly skilled individuals to protect the nation and handle major threats.
According to Frank Grillo, A.R.G.U.S. will undergo some changes in the DCU, beyond just the updated logo spotted on the set of Peacemaker Season 2.
In a recent interview with Collider, Grillo discussed his role in the DCU and was compared to the MCU’s Agent Coulson, who played a key part across multiple projects. So far, Grillo is confirmed to appear in Creature Commandos, Peacemaker, and Superman, which explains the comparison.
You know I’ll go a step further and I get a little bit of a Sam Jackson vibe. […] It’s that kind of thing where he can swing through for a little bit in ‘Superman’ and you know have a kind of a critical and pivotal role, and then a bigger role in ‘Peacemaker,’ a very crucial role.
And then you know he is the leader of the team on ‘Creature Commandos’ so yeah, I mean, I don’t know what the future holds but I think Rick Flag is kind of the head of A.R.G.U.S. and so, you know like the MCU with Jackson.
You never know, It’s kind of endless.

It’s no surprise that Grillo’s character is shaping up to be a key figure in the DCU, especially with his involvement confirmed for nearly every major project releasing this year and next.
That said, one big question remains: how will Rick Flag Sr. fit into the Waller series? James Gunn recently shared that the show is still in active development, despite offering few updates so far.
What are your thoughts on the comparison to Agent Coulson?
