While the protagonists are the story’s focus, in this article, we will discuss something different – a species of animal that became exceptionally important for the Mages during the First-Class Mage Exam. The animal in question is a small species of bird known as the Stille, and in this article, you will find out absolutely everything you need to know about this species of bird and why it is so important for the lore of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.

  • Article Breakdown:

The Stille are small but are exceptionally feisty

The world of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is one of the most beautiful and magical fantasy worlds seen in the animanga lore. The landscapes and the numerous magical creatures seen in the series are wonderful. In this article, we will talk about a specific type of animal that we’ve seen in the series. The animal in question is a small bird named Stille, and these birds became extremely important thanks to the First-Class Mage exam, as part of which the Mages had to capture a stille, which was exceptionally difficult.

The Stille are small orange birds that look like normal birds, but they are far from normal. Namely, they are made out of meteoric iron and are exceptionally resilient and difficult to catch. They themselves have very little mana, which makes it difficult for anyone to detect them, but they are highly sensitive to mana, which means that they can detect it from several dozen meters, which makes it difficult for anyone to actually approach them. If they feel threatened, they will simply fly off like a bullet since they can reach the speed of sound and, with it, breach most barriers, including ice.

On top of that, it has to be said that they are immune to offensive magic and have exceptional defense. The mages taking the First-Class Mage Exam had to capture a Stille in order to pass the exam, and knowing more about them, you can understand how difficult it was despite seemingly looking like an easy task. Some of the groups were ultimately successful, and we are now going to tell you how Frieren managed to use her skills and intellect to capture a Stille, thus proving her immense skills and abilities. Let us now see what happened to Frieren and the Stille.

Frieren managed to capture a Stille by tricking it

We have now told you everything you need to know about the Stille, which means that we can tell you how Frieren managed to catch one. Her plan was to observe the Stille and their habits for a while before coming up with a plan. Once she had enough information, she managed to come up with a plan. It was a very complex plan, but it worked eventually, as Frieren’s skills and intelligence proved to be superior to the instincts of a small bird. So, here’s what happened.

When Frieren realized that Stille could detect even the slightest quanta of mana and that they would avoid it, she decided to limit their movements. Namely, the Stille had to drink water, and Frieren then decided to imbue every surface of water, no matter how small, with a bit of mana, save for one. This is where she and her party decided to wait, with Frieren suppressing her mana completely. This means that the Stille would avoid all other locations and drink there and that they probably wouldn’t be able to detect Frieren.

But, Frieren still had to avoid their defense, which she managed to do using an old folk spell that the Stille couldn’t deflect; this is the same spell she used to restrain a Geisel, and surprisingly – it worked perfectly. This is how Frieren and her group were able to capture a Stille.
