Frieren: Who Are Linie and Draht? Introducing Lügner’s Associates!

Being a fantasy manga, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is naturally filled with fantasy creatures, including demons. And while we have already seen Qual, the new demons slowly introduced to the series are quite different from him. We have already told you all about Lügner, you need to know, but aside from him, two other demons have been introduced to the anime: Linie and Draht. Linie and Draht are Lügner’s aides, and in this article, we have decided to tell you all about them and their role in the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End story.
Linie is Lügner’s female aide
So, as Frieren, Fern, and Stark continue their journey, they arrive at the town governed by Graf Granat. Initially, it all seems like just another typical stop for them, but then, suddenly, Frieren summons her staff and prepares for battle in the middle of the street. No one knows why, but soon, a group of three demons appears; they are Lügner, the leader; Linie, the female demon; and Draht, the male demon. Now, while the story focuses on Lügner and Frieren, we will – here – focus on Linie.
Linie is a small female demon dressed as a maid who frequently serves food and drinks to Lügner; she likes to eat apples and is often seen eating one. She is quiet around others, but she seems to have a friendly relationship with Lügner, although it is obvious that she respects his authority.
She doesn’t understand human emotions at all, and when Lügner lies to Granat about his father, she is the one to ask what a “father” is; Lügner then tells her that he did not know but that it was a “magic word” that they could use to lie to humans.
When Draht leaves to kill Frieren, she can detect his mana, which is one of her abilities. But, when his mana suddenly disappears, both of them deduce that Draht was killed by Frieren, which alters their plan. Knowing that their deception of Graf Granat failed, they tried to torture him into lowering the town’s defenses but ultimately failed.
She was initially going to fight Fern, but Lügner deduced that Fern would be too powerful of an opponent for her, so he left her to fight Stark, believing that she could handle him. It was then revealed that she was born sometime before the Demon King’s downfall and that she once saw Eisen in battle. Using her mimicking skills, she could properly imitate his movements, which caused a problem for Stark, as he was Eisen’s former pupil.
Still, Stark soon realized that her moves did not have the same power as Eisen’s, so he could overpower her easily and ultimately kill her, which is how her story in the series ended.
Draht is a powerful assassin and is Lügner’s male aide
As we have said above, we know that Lügner is the main demon in this arc, but Linie and Draht also deserve some attention, and we will give it to them. Draht was a tall, slender demon with dark yellow hair and a pair of horns that are characteristical of all demons. He is also quiet around others, seemingly talking even less than Linie. On the other hand, based on his own admission, he is very sure of himself and is ready to defend Lügner when needed, as he did when Frieren attacked him and later Graf Granat.
Although he is loyal to Lügner and is obedient, he seems to be a maverick as well, as Lügner commented that he’s had trouble controlling him in the past, which was a comment made when he went to kill Frieren in prison without consulting anyone.
He appeared in front of the guard and was able to slice off his head with ease, killing the knight in a moment’s time, which proves that he is indeed, as he said to Frieren, a very powerful and skilled assassin, although not many details about his magic have been revealed.
He is also very loyal to Aura the Guillotine, as he went to kill Frieren on his own because Lügner said that Frieren was the only potential problem they had; they planned to trick Graf Granat into lowering the town’s defenses so that Aura could raid the town and kill them all. When Lügner commented about Frieren, Draht made his way to her cell and told her that he would kill her, as he is a very skilled assassin.
Still, Frieren was not really amused by this, and she simply asked him whether he was sure he would face her, as she was much stronger than even Aura the Guillotine. Soon after that, his mana disappeared completely, and Frieren disappeared from her cell, which signaled his demise and the failure of Lügner’s initial plan to trick Granat, as it became obvious that they were lying.
