Welcome to the ending explained for episode 7 of Season 2 of ‘From.’ In the last week’s episode, we’ve seen Ellis on the verge of death and Boyd losing his mind. He lost almost all allies in town until he proved that he was indeed infected with something and that ‘something’ killed one of the monsters.

Now this week’s episode has been slower in pace but managed to answer at least some of the mysteries we’ve been wondering about. First and foremost, can the monsters that come out after dark be killed? Before we give everything away, it’s time to recap the whole episode, so let’s go.

How is Boyd’s blood connected to the death of the monster?

Before Boyd could give Ellis a blood transfusion, he went outside to rid himself of whatever he was infected with. We know that the worms underneath his skin gave him horrific hallucinations, which was disturbing. Boyd went outside, and some of his blood got in contact with the monsters outside. This resulted in the death of the monster, and once the sun had risen, the crew went outside to inspect the corpse, determining that the monster was indeed dead. Boyd’s blood was key to killing it. And now, it was time for some hard decisions.

Both Boyd and Kristi agreed that the monster should be dissected and analyzed. Seeing the monster’s overall anatomy might give them more insights into what exactly killed it and how to proceed.

Kenny, on the other hand, was staunchly against this. He feared the “evil” might wake up and hurt everyone present. Since he was outnumbered, Boyd and Kristi moved the monster’s body inside the clinic to perform an autopsy on it.

Kenny was sent to pick up some supplies that they might need from his mom’s place while Boyd and Kristi proceeded to operate on the monster. At the same time, Mari, Krist’s fiance, is going through a difficult withdrawal now that Kristi has cut off her supply of morphine.

There isn’t a single drop of blood in the monster’s body

When Boyd and Kristi started dissecting the monster’s corpse, Kenny had a meltdown and a heart-to-heart conversation with Kristi outside. He finally came clean that he loves her and wants to see her happy with Mari. He, however, won’t stay idle while she puts herself in danger while operating on the body.

Kristi says that she has to do this. This might be their only chance to learn more about the monsters and how to fight them.

At the same time, Mari wakes up from her withdrawal-induced fever and starts wandering the clinic. She discovers that the operating table is empty and that the monster escaped. She teams up with Boyd, and he starts shooting the monster. When the monster is about to kill them, Mari notices a music box with the ballerina and wakes up. It turns out that all of this was just a nightmare.

Boyd and Kristi are removing the rib cage of the monster, and Kristi comments that the monster has all the same anatomy as a regular human being, except that its organs were mummified and the corpse is bone dry from the inside. Meanwhile, Kenny returns to take part in the autopsy, but he doesn’t like it.

Kristi feels like all hope is lost. She hoped that they would discover at least something important, some weakness that the monster has. I mean, it was obvious from the start that the monsters in ‘From’ were dead and have been dead for quite some time at this point. Everything from their clothing to the “memorabilia” that they hold in the caves beneath the town suggests that the monsters are from the last century or at least 60 or 70 years old. So it’s no wonder that the organs are bone dry.

This frustrates Kristi greatly, and she starts punching at the organs. At that moment, Kenny notices a small amount of unidentified liquid pouring out from the creature’s organs. Kristi identifies this as bile and is grateful that they, at least, have something.

Boyd offers Kenny the deputy position again, but Kenny refuses

Boyd and Kristi extract the bile fluid from the monster, hoping that they can use it to kill another monster. The only problem now lies in the fact that they need to get close to the monster to kill it.

Boyd says that this is a problem that they will have to solve at some other point in the future and asks Kenny whether he would like to be his deputy again. Kenny doesn’t answer but implies with his body language that he is not interested. He simply walks away.

Fatima is pregnant, and apparently, the pregnancy is supernatural in origin

Ellis manages to live through the night, and he is ready to return to the colony house, but something is bothering Fatima. In the last week’s episode, she revealed that she might be pregnant and got tested. Kristi confirms her suspicions and tells her that she will be with her every step of the way.

Still, Fatima is troubled for some reason. I mean, it’s obvious. Who wants to give birth to a child while stuck in the middle of nowhere, hunted by monsters? Besides the obvious worries, there is something else.

Fatima reveals to Donna that she is pregnant. And despite being in the middle of the food crisis, with residents of the Colony House jumping at each other’s throats, Donna is beside herself with glee.

Fatima gloomily explains that this is a medical miracle that she can’t be pregnant due to her medical history that rendered her sterile. She fears that this place is messing up with her and will all lead to a massive catastrophe.

Donna tries to reassure her they have witnessed so much impossible and messed up stuff while being stuck here and that the fact that she is miraculously pregnant should be the least of her concerns.

But still, Fatima remains adamant that her pregnancy is supernatural in origin. It’s important to note that the reproductive system and the illnesses affecting it are complicated in nature and that women of childbearing age are rarely 100 % sterile as sometimes the issues resolve themselves for no apparent reason.

One of the few instances where sterility cannot be resolved randomly or via medications is when a full hysterectomy has taken place, and since we don’t know Fatima’s medical history, we can’t comment on whether her fears are justified or not.

Is someone inside town working against the residents?

Jim is falling deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole with his theory that all of this is just some twisted experiment, and so far, no one seems to agree with him. Not even his wife, Tabitha, as the two had a brief argument regarding young Ethan hanging out with Victor.

Jim also notices that Randall, the troublemaker has a real functioning drone, and he quickly starts developing plans on how to utilize the drone to send a message to the outside world.

Randall initially accuses him of being a perv, but Jim explains that they can use the drone to mount a radio antenna on it. Then, they can fly above the tree line with the drone and broadcast the signal outside.

Randall and Jim visit the Matthews’ abandoned camper to look for anything they can salvage, and Randall agrees with Jim’s theory that this might be some kind of an experiment, but he also points out that Jim forgot the ask one important question. Is there anybody living among them that might be working with their captors?

This makes Jim wonder, and I’m certain that this conversation will lead to much trouble in future episodes

Tabitha and Jade are a little bit closer to discovering the truth behind the symbols

Tabitha searches for Jade. She has some questions regarding the time he found her on the ground near the entrance to the cave, seemingly attacked by hallucinations of undead children. Jade is the bar working on the way to distill alcohol without making it taste like “stomach acid.”

Jade also reveals that he sometimes suffers from hallucinations but says he will tell her all about it if she agrees to help him with his side project.

Tabitha agrees, and Jade reveals that he was once attacked by a hallucination of a man that clearly came from the Civil War era. He also reveals that he had terrifying visions of a man named Christopher, who seems to be connected to the strange symbol he keeps seeing.

He shows the photo of Christopher and young Victor to Tabitha, and she recognizes Victor in an instant. Before she leaves, Tabitha comes across Jade’s notebook, where he keeps drawing the symbol, and she identifies those symbols as the ones she saw etched into the walls in the caverns beneath the town, where monsters sleep.

Victor confirms that autumn is coming, and this can’t be good

Ethan and Victor had a falling out when he and Jade ransacked his room to search for clues regarding the strange symbol. Since then, Ethan and Victor haven’t been speaking much, and Ethan misses his friend.

After some persuasion, Victor drops the tough act and asks Ethan whether he wants to help him with a project. Victor explains that the trees are changing. They are losing leaves, which some other residents noticed as well.

Considering that the crops keep failing, it’s obvious that autumn is coming, which means the food supply worsens as the days progress.

Victor also mentions have things never change around here, they are always the same, and if something does change, this usually means that something bad is coming. Victor might be right since he is the oldest resident in town, and for as long as he was here, for 30 or even 40 years so far, it was always summer.

Elgin is having hallucinations as well

Elgin was the one who saved Ellis’ life by acting quickly and driving well under pressure, which means that he was there when Boyd managed to kill the monster.

Boyd told Elgin that he shouldn’t reveal to the rest of the town what happened here during the night. They need time to learn as much as possible before the rest of the residents catch a whiff. Elgin agrees, but when he sees Julie, he reveals that something is bothering him and what happened.

Julie notices that he is under a great deal of stress and shares with her coping method. She says that she fills the bathtub with water until her ears are just underneath the water’s surface. This tricks her into hearing the ocean and relieves her a bit when times are tough.

Later that day, Elgin tries this method, but as soon as he starts to relax, he gets a horrifying vision of a female monster, and she starts drowning him by pushing his head underneath the water’s surface.
