‘The Mandalorian’s’ Giancarlo Esposito Reveals Disney’s Ambitious Plans for the Star Wars Franchise
The Star Wars franchise is undeniably experiencing a crisis. The latest live-action series, ‘The Acolyte,’ has been regarded as one of the franchise’s biggest failures, while ‘Star Wars Outlaws’ is struggling to find its footing, leaving the future of movies and shows in question.
Daisy Ridley’s upcoming standalone film is reportedly stuck in development hell, facing significant delays, and Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie has reportedly been canceled. Additionally, the flagship series, ‘The Mandalorian,’ also faces an uncertain future regarding the production of its fourth season.
Despite the current uncertainty, there are still many projects in development or set to be released in the coming months. Fans can look forward to ‘Skeleton Crew’ and season 2 of ‘Ahsoka.’ Additionally, James Mangold’s Star Wars film is in the works, although there have been only a few official updates so far.
A film titled ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ is scheduled to hit theaters on May 22, 2026, leaving fans uncertain about the future of the franchise’s most popular projects. During a panel at Dragon Con, Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Moff Gideon in ‘The Mandalorian,’ shared what fans can expect from the upcoming shows and the movie.
as in the MCU…Disney will figure out how to join all of these characters into one really great movie or TV show. That’s my sense of where it will go…Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have a new vision, continuing on with a Mandalorian movie…My sense is that it’s all going to converge at one point or another and we’re going to have another set of… [a] trilogy, or more, of films.
These plans aren’t exactly recent; discussions about the eventual crossover between characters from ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘Ahsoka’ have been ongoing for at least a year, given that their timelines are interconnected.
Giancarlo Esposito expressed optimism about the potential for more stories to unfold, especially when asked about the future of his character in the franchise. He is eager to reprise his role as Moff Gideon.
I want to live! There was a f*cking clone. Make it true! So mote it be!
