Gunn’s Recent Announcement Opens the Door for Henry Cavill’s Superman to Enter DCU Canon

In their announcement of the rebooted DCU, Gunn, and Safran emphasized that nearly nothing from the old DCEU would carry over into the new cinematic universe.
The exceptions were ‘Peacemaker’ Season 1 and the character Blue Beetle, with Gunn assuring fans of a seamless transition into the second season of ‘Peacemaker’ without confusion.
The most recent announcement regarding the show complicates matters, as it appears that another project, ‘The Suicide Squad,’ is now considered canon to the DCU. Frank Grillo has been cast as Rick Flag Sr. in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, having already been confirmed to voice the character for the animated show. This aligns with Gunn’s earlier statement about wanting voice actors to also portray their characters in live-action projects within the DCU.
Following the announcement, it was confirmed that Flag Sr. will have unresolved issues with Peacemaker, stemming from Peacemaker’s role in the death of Flag Jr. in ‘The Suicide Squad.’ The clash between the original DC Universe and James Gunn’s rebooted DCU seems unavoidable, despite Gunn’s assertion that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 is part of the DCU. Despite assurances from Gunn that it won’t be confusing, conflicting visions are on a collision course.
If Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag is in the DCU, then it’s likely Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, and maybe Henry Cavill’s Superman are too, considering Davis showed up in the post-credit scene of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. Share your thoughts in the comments!
