Heavenly Delusion: Who Is Haruki?
As fans will know, Heavenly Delusion is a very peculiar manga and anime series. It combines many known elements but still manages to create a uniquely special story that has succeeded in capturing the attention of fans worldwide. Aside from the plot itself, Heavenly Delusion also offers us a series of amazing characters, and in this article, we will talk about one of them and explain their role in the story. The character in the spotlight is Haruki, who is in every possible way a deeply intriguing and special character. In this article, we will talk about this peculiar character, one of the many we’ve seen in the post-apocalyptic portion of the series. The article is going to reveal everything you need to know about Haruki and his role in the story so far.
Haruki Takehaya was a boy who lived in the post-apocalyptic world with his sister Kiriko and the other orphans; they were looked after by Robin. One day, he was fatally wounded by a man-eater, with Kiriko coming to save him, only to receive a bullet to the head by an unknown shooter. Dr. Sawatari then took the siblings and implanted Haruki’s brain in Kiruko’s body, thus “giving birth” to Kiruko, one of the two protagonists of the series.
The rest of this article will be about Haruki Takehaya and his story in the Heavenly Delusion manga and anime series. We will introduce you to all the facts that are known about the boy while, at the same time, not revealing too many spoilers from the manga, as the anime series has its own mysterious way of evolving, and we want to respect that. Still, if you’re not completely up-to-date with the events that have happened – so far – in the Heavenly Delusion manga, we have to warn you that the article is going to contain spoilers and that you might find out something you do not want to find out, so be careful.
Haruki Takehaya has, like so many of the characters, a truly sad background story
Fans of Heavenly Delusion will know that the manga definitely has one of the more intriguing stories out there since every character and aspect of Ishiguro’s world is a story of its own and has a frightening background, and is extremely likable. The general idea of the world created by Ishiguro is that it operates in a strange reality where everything seems normal – in the context of its post-apocalyptic setting – but is actually weird and full of mysteries. This is a world in which Haruki’s story is one of the more intriguing ones, which, as we have proclaimed, speaks for itself.
Haruki was introduced in the historical portion of the story as Kiriko’s brother. He lived with the other orphaned children who were taken care of by Robin Inazaki. His sister was a kart racer, and it was obvious that the two of them were quite close, despite their age difference and the fact that they did different things.
One day, during a kart race, Haruki, who was observing the track, noticed a large man-eater on the racetrack; the man-eater had the ability to become invisible, which is why it was such a danger. He tried to stop the race but failed, so he went to face the man-eater by himself. This turned out to be a fatal mistake, as the man-eater quickly used its powers to eat Haruki.

As he was being eaten, Kiriko approached the monster, and as soon as she saw Haruki being eaten, she attacked it and tried to save her brother. And while she did manage to pull her brother out of the creature’s mouth, she was shocked to see that – literally – half of her brother was missing and that he was on the verge of death. Moments later, she was shot in the head, and the next thing we see is a hospital, an operation, and Kiruko waking up in the hospital.
And this is where the story becomes weird. Now, we know that Kiruko is one of the two protagonists of the series, a young girl who runs a “handyman” business and is 18 or 20 years old, according to her own words. At Mikura’s request, she escorts Maru to bring him to “Heaven.” Mikura also bequeaths him his pistol, the only weapon capable of killing the monsters that keep attacking them. She is quick-witted and possesses excellent insight and judgment even in unfamiliar situations, but she is also slightly clumsy. Although they are not siblings, Maru calls her “sister.”
During their travels, Maru confesses to Kiruko that he likes her and that he wants her to be his girlfriend. At that moment, her true story is revealed, and the flashback scenes showing the operation are explained. Namely, as it turns out, Kiruko is actually Haruki, whose mind and consciousness have been transplanted into the body of his late sister, Kiriko Takehaya. It is revealed that after the attack, dr. Sawatari took them and operated on them so that he could save them, as in any other scenario; both of them would have died immediately.

When Kiruko finds the Doctor later on, she attacks him, thinking he is a villain, but he explains that Kiriko was brain-dead from a bullet wound. After the attack on Haruki, he simply transplanted his brain into her healthy body. Kiriko then apologized after concluding that the Doctor was a good person and not a villain.
And that is their – Haruki’s, Kiruko’s, and Kiriko’s – story. As you can see, it is a very intriguing one, and her history reveals the whole context of her tragedy. This is what has been revealed in the anime episodes that have aired so far; the manga offers a lot more details, but as we never do in our Heavenly Delusion articles, we won’t be revealing too many spoilers. We just have to tell you that you can expect more exciting and shocking information in the future.
