Stardew Valley: Here’s How To Cancel Animations – Simple Commands

There’s plenty to do in Stardew Valley, but not enough time to do it. Stardew Valley can partially be considered a time management game. The answer why is simple: you need to be pretty good at juggling hours in the day with a plethora of tasks if you want to constantly improve your farm and do plenty of sidequests and little tasks around town. While there are plenty of tips on how to save time in Stardew Valley, today we’re going to focus on animations. Animations, while seemingly inconsequential things, can take up a big chunk of your time. Due to that, let’s see how to cancel animations in Stardew Valley with simple commands.
Almost every action in Stardew Valley has animation
Almost every action you do in Stardew Valley is associated with animation, from cutting trees with an axe to watering your crops with a watering can. Most of the time, we’re not even registering those animations. It’s just something that happens. But when you think about it, most animations can take out a significant chunk of time when you’re performing an action.
You swing an axe, cut a tree, and then that same axe needs to return to its starting position before you can do the action again. Things would be done much quicker if the animation was shorter or avoided altogether. While I do appreciate the work that went into animating actions in Stardew Valley, If I have the choice to disable animations, I will absolutely do it.
What are the pros of canceling animations in Stardew Valley?
The biggest advantage you gain when you cancel animations in Stardew Valley is the fact that you’re going to be using your tools faster, and as a result, you will do stuff quicker.
As each tool is associated with lengthy animation, it makes sense that shaving off those few seconds when performing several actions in a row saves plenty of time in the long run.
Stardew Valley is not the only game that has issues with this. Plenty of games that rely on using tools to interact with your environment have lengthy animations associated with the actions. It’s nothing new, but they are better off skipped if possible.
How to cancel animations in Stardew Valley?
You can cancel animations in Stardew Valley in two ways, either by using the game’s own mechanics and hotkey or by installing third-party software to reassign hotkeys. We’re going to explain both ways in more detail in the rest of this guide.
Canceling animations in Stardew Valley by pressing default keys
Stardew Valley allows you to perform animation canceling in-game very easily. To cancel animations in Stardew Valley by using the default keys, simply press Right-Shift + Del + R.
Unfortunately, this combination of keys needs to be pressed while you’re also moving about and getting things down. It’s really inconvenient and useful only after you get used to it and practice it until you get better at it. At first, your tasks might even take longer to perform since you’re trying to juggle two things at once. Luckily, there is a way to reassign those default keys to something more suitable for our needs. Let’s see how it’s done.
Canceling animations in Stardew Valley by using a third-party application
Canceling animations in Stardew Valley with third-party applications is, for some, the easier of two approaches. A steam user Xpliciit made an incredibly useful guide on how to do it, and it would be a shame not to give him credit for saving us a ton of time. Now before we show you how to cancel animations you’re going to have to install “AutoHotkey“. AutoHotkey is a small, perfectly safe program used for automation scripting on the Microsoft Windows operating system.
After you’ve installed AutoHotkey, we can proceed.
To disable animations in Stardew Valley with AutoHotkey follow these steps:
- Right-click on your desktop and navigate to New>AutoHotkey Script
- You can name the file however you want, but it’s best if you associate the file with Stardew Valley; I’m going to name my Stardew Valley animations
- After you’re done naming the file, right-click on it and navigate to edit script
- A simple notepad should appear past the following script into your newly created file #IfWinActive Stardew Valley x:: While GetKeyState(“x”,”P”) { sendEvent {LButton Down} sleep 10 sendEvent {LButton Up} sleep 125 sendEvent {r Down}{Delete Down}{RShift Down} sleep 10 sendEvent {r Up}{Delete Up}{RShift Up} } sleep 30 return
- Save the script, and double-click to activate it.
- Start Stardew Valley and navigate to the options screen
- By default, the “X” key is associated with Check/Do Action, change it to Spacebar for example so the two actions won’t cancel each other out.
- Save the changes and test your new script by holding x while you’re using any kind of tool that has animations.
And that’s about it. If everything was done right, you should notice improvement instantly. Have something to add? Let us know in the comments below!
