Here’s How To Play Minecraft Multiplayer on PS3

The PS3 console has been around since before Minecraft officially came out in 2011. It first came out in 2006, whereas the PS4 came out in November 2011. It makes sense that this would prohibit you from playing Minecraft with your friends, but luckily, that’s not the case, so how do you play Minecraft multiplayer on PS3?
Can you play Minecraft multiplayer without Realms on PS3?
Unfortunately, there is no way to play Minecraft multiplayer on PS3 or any console without paying for a Realms subscription. You can’t even get a friend to buy a Realms subscription or a third-party server host subscription for Bedrock and for you to join it then. This is because PS3 is a last-generation console, and the version of Minecraft it has is not updated anymore. Another issue is that Sony, the maker of Playstation consoles, is a direct rival to Microsoft, the maker of Xbox and the owner of Minecraft.
So, you have no choice but to subscribe to a Realm. To subscribe to a Realm, follow these steps:
- Launch Minecraft on your PS3 console
- Then, press Play and choose to Create a New World
- Go to World Settings and choose Create on Realms
- You’ll then be prompted to choose whether you want to create a realm with 2 or 10 players. Choose one depending on the number of friends you want to play with. Keep in mind that the 10-player option is more expensive.
- Read and agree to the terms and conditions.
- If you’ve never used Realms before, you can start your 30-day free trial; otherwise, click on Subscribe Now. You can cancel your Realms subscription before the trial ends at no cost, but you’ll lose the world you created.
Now that you own a Realm, it’s time for your friends to join it. The only ”but” is that they can only ever join if they have a PlayStation Plus subscription themselves, but I digress; let’s see how they can do that:
- Next to your Realm, you’ll find a pencil icon; click on it
- Please scroll down to Member and click on it
- Scroll down, find the friends you want to invite, and you’re done
- They will receive the six-digit code that will allow them to join your Realm
- Accept the invite, enter the code, and you and your friends can enjoy Realms together
If you don’t see any of your friends in the invite list, you’ll have first to add the friends to your friends list, to do this, follow these steps:
- From your Home screen, select Friends
- Click on Add Friends
- Type in your friend’s Playstation Username
- Click Send Request
Can you play Minecraft split-screen on PS3?
The PlayStation consoles were brought up having two joystick docks that you can use to split screen and play the game with one of your friends simultaneously; the same applies to PS3, so is it possible to split screen Minecraft on PS3? You can split-screen play Minecraft with one of your friends on a PS3. To do it, follow these steps:
- First, you’ll need to configure your display to have a 720p output or higher. To do this, go to Settings.
- While in the Settings menu, go to System –>Console Settings –> Display.
- Make sure it’s set to 720p or higher; if not, the split screen option won’t work for you.
- Enter Minecraft and load up a new world or an existing one.
- Uncheck the online game box
- After you enter the world, press the start button on the other joystick and sign in the player.
- To choose the Vertical or Horizontal option, go to Game Settings and change it through the Video menu.
You can have up to 4 players in split-screen mode. The only problem is that it will lower the render distance for each additional player that connects and plays with you. If you wish to sacrifice some render distance to play with a friend or two, you now know how to.
Realms VS Realms Plus
In terms of lag, there’s no difference between Realms and Realms Plus. All versions lag equally. The main differences are the price, the number of people you can have in a realm, how many worlds you can create, and the content you get with the subscription.
In terms of price, a Realms Subscription costs 3.99 USD, whereas a Realms Plus subscription costs 7.99 USD. The number of players you can have with a Realms subscription is three, whereas, with Realms Plus, it’s 11, including you. With a Realms Plus Subscription, you get 150+ free Marketplace packs, but with a Realms subscription, you don’t get any.
Possible Issues
The only issue with Realms is the lag. This can be due to several things, but with consoles, only two are possible, either you have a poor internet connection or too many players are in your Realm at once. The first is self-explanatory and can be solved by using a LAN cable instead of Wi-Fi and ensuring no one is sucking up your bandwidth by streaming music, watching Netflix, or downloading huge files on your network.
The second issue isn’t your fault. Although you can have up to ten players join your Realm at once, sometimes, that is too much for the server to handle. It’s not a problem of the total number of people in a Realm, but rather, how many active users there are currently. You’ll have to ditch one of your friends if push comes to shove.
