Hideo Kojima Calls Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts*’ a “Kind-Hearted MCU Film”
Hideo Kojima, the famous game designer behind the Metal Gear and Death Stranding series, recently shared his thoughts on the Marvel movie Thunderbolts*. He posted his review on X, expressing how much the film impacted him.
Kojima praised the movie for being different from other MCU films, calling it “a truly kind-hearted MCU film.“
Thunderbolts* follows a group of villains and antiheroes who come together as a team. It stars Florence Pugh, Lewis Pullman, Hannah John-Kamen, David Harbour, and Sebastian Stan. Unlike other Marvel movies that focus on fighting a big villain, Thunderbolts* is more about personal struggles.
Kojima pointed out that it’s “not about eliminating a powerful external enemy to save the world,” but rather “it’s about embracing lonely individuals and rescuing the audience from their own inner enemies.” He appreciated how the film tackled themes like mental health, redemption, and finding purpose.
Kojima also enjoyed the balance between comedy and emotion in the film, praising director Jake Schreier’s sense of humor as “perfect.” He especially liked Lewis Pullman’s performance, saying he “brought a great vibe to the screen.”
However, he reserved his highest praise for Florence Pugh, saying, “Above all, Florence Pugh was phenomenal. You could say it’s her film.”
Kojima is known for his thoughtful take on movies. In the past, he has also shared his love for films like Mad Max: Fury Road, Dune, and Drive My Car. He often discusses how movies inspire his creative work in gaming. His positive review of Thunderbolts* shows how much he values stories that explore deeper emotions and human connections.
