When & Where Does ‘Invincibe’ Take Place?

Share:

‘Invincible’ is one of the most popular shows on Amazon Prime, and a lot of superhero fans love the fact that this series allows us to see superheroes in a different light. Of course, one of the things that we know about this series is that it focuses on a fictional father-and-son duo with superhuman powers and have a very complicated relationship with one another in a world where heroes, aliens, and monsters exist. So, when and where does ‘Invincible’ take place?

  • Article Breakdown:
  • ‘Invincible’ takes place during the modern days, even though the comic book takes place during the middle of the 2000s instead of the 2020s.
  • Around a month went by between seasons 1 and 2 of ‘Invincible,’ as this was suggested by Cecil Stedman in episode 1 of season 2.
  • The events of ‘Invincible’ take place in a fictional universe that is much like ours but is home to different aliens and monsters.

The setting is similar to modern days

One of the reasons why ‘Invincible’ is so popular is the fact that the characters are quite relatable in terms of their personalities and problems. Of course, the characters are quite relatable to many different audiences because there are seemingly many different similarities between the setting of the series and the present-day timeline, especially when it comes to the references and the technologies used.

While it was never mentioned what year ‘Invincible’ takes place, we can make the assumption that the series takes place in the modern era, and that means that it takes place during the 2020s, considering that the first season was released in 2021. The technology (such as smartphones) of the present day is used in the series, and that could only imply that it is set in the present day.

Meanwhile, the government agencies in the series also use high-tech gadgets that are far too advanced for normal society to use, suggesting that technology is a lot more advanced in the setting of the series.

There are also a few references that the characters make, and such references can only mean that the series takes place in a timeline that’s very similar to the modern-day period. As such, it is more than possible that ‘Invincible’ actually takes place during the 2020s as opposed to the comics, which is set more than a decade before the animated series.

How much time passes between seasons 1 and 2?

While two years went by between seasons 1 and 2 of ‘Invincible,’ the things that happened in the universe of the series didn’t have such a long time between them. That’s because only a month went by between seasons 1 and 2 of the series, as this was suggested by Cecil Stedman when he said that it has only been a month since Mark recovered from the battle between him and Omni-Man.

Of course, during that scene, Mark was with Cecil as they were having a meal together at a local restaurant. Cecil implores Mark to take some time off from being a superhero, only for Mark to imply that the things that he was doing were his way of coping with the things that his father did.

In the month that went by between seasons 1 and 2 of ‘Invincible,’ Mark steadily recovered from the injuries he suffered against his father during the season 1 finale. Season 2 probably also takes place right after Mark and Allen the Alien met one another. There’s also the fact that Mark continued working as a superhero independently as his way of coping with what happened between him and Omni-Man.

In relation to Omni-Man, he left Earth right after his beatdown of Mark as he was guilt-stricken with what he did to the people of Earth and to his own son. Nolan Grayson traveled the universe while contemplating what he did, and he even tried to end his life by going into a black hole.

However, he saved a Thraxan ship and took it back to Thraxa, where the Thraxans welcomed him as their new leader. Nolan started a new life on Thraxa and even had a new son with his new wife. The time that went by between seasons 1 and 2 of the series changed Omni-Man into a better person as he realized that it was now more important for him to keep his loved ones safe.

‘Invincible’ is set in a fictional universe

The events of ‘Invincible,’ of course, take place in a fictional universe that is a mirror of our own universe due to the fact that it has an Earth that is very similar to the Earth that we live in. The many conventions and technologies of our present-day Earth are also present in ‘Invincible.’ The locations are also similar to the ones we see in our own version of Earth.

Then again, there are also a lot of differences between the fictional Earth of ‘Invincible’ and the real-life Earth we live in. For example, the technology in ‘Invincible’ seems to be more advanced, as suggested by the technology used by the GDA and the ones developed by the Mauler Twins. On top of that, superhumans exist on Earth in ‘Invincible.’

There’s also the fact that aliens seem to be quite common in ‘Invincible’ as we’ve seen them in the form of Martians, Viltrumites, and the many different aliens we’ve seen in the vast universe of this fictional series. So, while ‘Invincible’ may have patterned its Earth after our own Earth, the existence of aliens, superheroes, and monsters makes this a true work of fiction that features many different planets all over the vast universe.
