Is All Of Us Are Dead Scary, And How Gory Is It?

All Of Us Are Dead has been taking the world by storm, as this South Korean series is another take at the zombie apocalypse genre that Korean filmmakers tend to be so great at. Of course, considering that this is a zombie series, there are plenty of things that parents must know before they allow their children to watch it. So, with that said, is All Of Us Are Dead scary, and how gory is it?

Like any zombie movie and show, All Of Us Are Dead is supposed to be a horror movie but is more of a thriller. It doesn’t have the jumpscares or scenes that will surprise you, but it does keep the heart-pounding because of the thrilling scenes. And like most zombie movies or shows, expect a lot of gore.

Considering that the main subjects of All Of Us Are Dead are the students that are trying to survive a zombie outbreak, it goes without saying that this is a series that is full of blood and gore. It isn’t supposed to be appropriate for children. But the good news for those who hate horror movies that have plenty of surprises is that the horror aspect in All Of Us Are Dead is more of a thriller.

Is All Of Us Are Dead Horror?

One of the best shows to hit the screens as of late in 2022 is All Of Us Are Dead, which is another one of South Korea’s entries in the zombie genre in Netflix’s vast library. Of course, we have seen plenty of zombie series and movies on Netflix, such as Kingdom, which is also South Korean. And the best part about All Of Us Are Dead is that it has a different take in the sense that it focuses on students.

Like any zombie movie or series, All Of Us Are Dead is tagged as a horror show because it has zombies as the central elements of the story. However, even though it might be tagged as a horror series, All Of Us Are Dead is also regarded as an action-drama. In fact, on its IMDB page, it is listed under action and drama. 

While zombie movies and shows are traditionally tagged under the horror genre, the rise of zombie apocalypse films has made these movies and shows a genre of their own. As such, All Of Us Are Dead doesn’t necessarily have all of the elements of a horror series because it dwells more on action and drama.

Think of the zombies as the cause of the central conflict of the series. However, the series doesn’t entirely dwell on them, as the main focus is on the students. That is why All Of Us Are Dead is also a drama series that sees the coming of age of the high school students involved in the story’s main plot. 

Is All Of Us Are Dead Scary?

Like many different stories that dwell on a zombie outbreak, All Of Us Are Dead isn’t necessarily scary. It may be tagged as a horror series, but it doesn’t have the usual creepy element that most horror movies and shows tend to have. The series can be scary to some extent. But it doesn’t have the creepiness and spookiness that you often see in horror movies and shows.

Instead, the scary aspect of All Of Us Are Dead can be found in how thrilling and suspenseful it can be. Like any zombie outbreak series, there are hardly any jumpscares or surprising scenes in All Of Us Are Dead. 

However, all of the encounters the group has with the zombies are full of thrill and suspense because you are going to have to brace yourself for what’s to come and what’s in store for the students. You are always at the edge of your seat, anticipating whether or not one of the students will die at the hands of the zombies as they are trying to fight them off or escape them.

So, for those who hate the creepy and spooky aspects that most horror movies and shows have, that is not the same case for All Of Us Are Dead, which is more of an action-drama thriller than a scary series.

How Gory Is All Of Us Are Dead?

Even though there aren’t a lot of traditionally scary scenes in All Of Us Are Dead, what anyone should expect from this series is that it will be full of blood and gore. That is something that you should expect out of a zombie-themed show, as zombies are expected to try to eat people, while the people themselves are expected to fight their way through the zombies by killing them.

Essentially, All Of Us Are Dead is full of blood and gore because of all of the people getting eaten by the zombies. In most cases, it isn’t even just one zombie biting one person. Instead, it is usually a horde of zombies feasting on a person.

Even the person-to-person fights in All Of Us Are Dead are full of blood as well, as you will see someone getting bloodied and battered after getting beaten up by someone else. And there are even eye-gouging scenes involved between one of the main protagonists and the series’ main antagonist.

On top of that, even if there are no zombies involved in a certain scene in All Of Us Are Dead, you should still expect a lot of blood. These are high school students wearing white uniforms. As such, because of all of the blood and gore involved in their survival, you will always see blood on their clothes.

So, for those who have a fear of blood or are not too fond of bloody scenes in movies and shows, All Of Us Are Dead isn’t the series for you. You can simply count how many scenes don’t have blood and gore in them, as it is expected for any show involving zombies to have plenty of gore. 

Is All Of Us Are Dead Suitable For 13-Year Olds?

Due to the blood and gore and the mature scenes in All Of Us Are Dead, this is a series that has a rating of TV-MA. For those who don’t know, shows that are rated TV-MA are meant for mature audiences, in general. 

While the TV-MA rating doesn’t specify what age the show is appropriate for, the general consensus is that it isn’t supposed to be for audiences under the age of 17 or 18, whichever of the two applies to a certain country. But the fact of the matter is that shows with the TV-MA rating are supposed to be for audiences mature enough to handle the content of the series.

As such, All Of Us Are Dead is certainly a show that isn’t meant for young teenagers that are 13 years old. In fact, it might even be a bit too mature and gory for some teens that are still 17 years old. That is why parents out there should make sure to monitor their children that are too young to be watching a series like All Of Us Are Dead.

Is All Of Us Are Dead Inappropriate?

Even though All Of Us Are Dead has a lot of blood and gore, it is not an inappropriate series that throws out mature content for the sake of doing so. There are plenty of swear words thrown around in this series, but they are done so in the heat of the moment, considering that the emotions of the characters in the show are always heightened. But, in terms of sexual and other types of mature content, All Of Us Are Dead doesn’t have those.

Is All Of Us Are Dead Disturbing?

The blood and gore in All Of Us Are Dead can be quite abundant, and that may be disturbing for some who aren’t necessarily fond of blood and gore. However, in most cases, especially if we are talking about mature audiences, All Of Us Are Dead isn’t disturbing. That’s because this is more of an action thriller drama that dwells on the basic human instinct survival. It doesn’t have the disturbing scenes that horror and psychological thrillers tend to have. Still, it can be disturbing because of how elements such as suicide and bullying tend to be prevalent in this series.
