One of the things that we cannot doubt about the Record of Ragnarök is that the entire anime revolves around the Ragnarök tournament between gods and humanity in order to determine whether or not the gods would eliminate humankind. In that regard, we saw that some of the strongest gods in the history of mankind appeared in the tournament and took part in it. But what about the deity of the largest religion in the world? Is Jesus in Record of Ragnarök?

Jesus is in the Record of Ragnarök. However, he appears as one of the Four Sages, alongside Buddha, Socrates, and Confucius. As such, he is similar to them in the sense that he is not a god but a revered figure that rose to the level of a god. Jesus does not fight in the tournament but can be seen supporting Buddha.

The thing about Jesus and the other Four Sages is that they are closer to humanity than the other gods as they are also human. This explains why the Four Sages aren’t like the other gods that want to destroy humanity. So, with that said, let’s look at whether or not Jesus is in Record of Ragnarök and how he plays a role in the events of the anime.

Is Jesus In Record Of Ragnarok?

It has already been established at the beginning of the manga and anime that the Record of Ragnarök involves a tournament between gods and humanity to decide the fate of humankind. In that regard, 13 gods and 13 humans were chosen to participate in the tournament. The goal is to decide the fate of humankind as a victory on the part of the gods would allow the gods to erase humans from the face of the planet.

With that said, we have seen some of the most prominent gods taking part in the tournament, as we’ve seen four Olympian gods Zeus, Poseidon, Hercules, and Hades, fighting on the side of the gods. Meanwhile, Thor has already participated in the tournament, and we are still waiting for Odin to finally appear as a fighter. But what about the deity of the largest religion in the world?

There is no doubt that Christianity is the largest religion in the world, as around a third of the entire human population are Christians. The central figure of Christianity is, of course, Jesus Christ. We can even argue that Jesus is the most popular deity in the history of the world. So, is Jesus in the Record of Ragnarök?

As a matter of fact, Jesus is actually in Record of Ragnarök. We know that Buddha is one of the representatives that Zeus chose to participate in the Ragnarök tournament. However, in the final episode of season 2, Buddha betrayed the gods so that he could help humanity in its fight against the gods. And this is due to the fact that Buddha was a human being that reached the level of the gods in terms of how he was revered.

This is the same case for Jesus, who we know was born human according to the Bible. However, Jesus was said to be the son of the Judeo-Christian god, and he returned to heaven with his father when he was crucified at the end of his life.

In Record of Ragnarök, we have what we call the Four Sages. These human beings attained enlightenment during their lifetime. Eventually, they became so influential in their philosophies that they attained the level of a god in terms of how humans revered them. The members of the Four Sages are Jesus, Buddha, Confucius, and Socrates.

Does Jesus Fight In The Ragnarok Tournament?

As mentioned, all of the prominent gods that we know in history took part in the Ragnarök tournament. We are talking about the likes of Zeus, Hercules, Poseidon, Shiva, and many other prominent names. But what about Jesus? Does the most prominent figure in the history of human religion fight in the Ragnarök tournament?

During the tournament, the Four Sages were seen in the manga when they supported Buddha in his fight with Zerofuku, who we know is the combination of all of the Shinto gods. That means that Jesus does not participate in the tournament but is actually a spectator supporting one of the Four Sages. In this case, he is similar to the other prominent gods and humans that don’t fight but merely watch from the stands to support the gods and humans that are related to their respective religions and history.

Considering that all of the Four Sages were humans, it is understandable for Jesus and the other Four Sages that don’t fight in the tournament to support Buddha and his desire to go against the other gods. That’s because, like Buddha, Jesus lived as a human being that loved and cared for humanity to the point that he actually gave his life up.

So, with that said, while Jesus does not fight in the Ragnarök tournament, he is one of the people that closely support Buddha’s fight against Zerofuku. They are both people that support humankind, which means that they are both characters that are neither god nor man but a mixture of both. But because we know that Jesus was never a fighter during his lifetime, it is understandable why he didn’t fight as a representative in the Ragnarök tournament.
