James Gunn Addresses Batman Casting Rumors and Clarifies Clark and Bruce’s Age Gap in the DCU

Among all the planned projects in the current DCU, fans are most excited about the upcoming ‘Superman’ movie and the ‘The Brave and the Bold’ live-action Batman film. When James Gunn cast David Corenswet as Superman, opting for a much younger actor than Henry Cavill, he assured fans that the new movie wouldn’t be an origin story.

Regarding ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ details are scarce, except that it will feature both Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne. This has led fans to believe that the DCU’s Batman will be significantly older than Superman.

Since James Gunn is quite active on Threads, he frequently debunks rumors about his upcoming projects. The latest rumor, shared by Jeff Sneider, suggested that Gunn had already chosen an actor to play Batman. Gunn quickly responded, stating that this was not true and that casting for the role hadn’t even begun.

As a reminder, fans have suggested several actors as ideal choices for the role, including Alan Ritchson, who has an impressive online campaign to be cast as the Dark Knight, and Jensen Ackles, who already voices the character in animated projects. There’s also the MCU’s Winston Duke, who suggested that it’s time for the world to have a black Batman.

So, if you were hoping for an announcement of the next Caped Crusader in the coming weeks, you might be disappointed. While discussing Batman casting, one fan asked Gunn to clarify the age difference between Superman and Batman. Gunn quickly pointed out that he never specified the age difference, only that the two characters won’t be the same age in the DCU.

I’m pretty sure I didn’t say that. What I said was Bruce “could be” a couple years older than Clark. All I meant was I wasn’t tied to Bruce and Clark being the exact same age.

Fans continue to speculate. Since ‘Brave and the Bold’ will introduce the Bat Family in the DCU, it’s likely that Bruce Wayne will be in his mid-thirties at the oldest, ruling out quite a few actors for the role.
