James Gunn and Peter Safran are working hard to create a new cinematic universe based on DC Comics after the DCEU ended. One project that survived the “reset” is James Gunn’s Peacemaker, which will return for a second season as part of the new DCU.
The co-CEO of DC Studios confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 will be part of the DCU. He assured fans that the transition from the DCEU to the DCU would be easy to follow, especially for Peacemaker, with no confusion.
The director has changed his stance multiple times since then. Initially, Gunn said that Peacemaker Season 1 wouldn’t be canon. However, he later clarified that the entire first season is canon—except for the Justice League cameo, a scene he likely regrets including.
The truth is almost all of Peacemaker is canon with the exception of Justice League… which we will kind of deal with in the next season of Peacemaker,”
Gunn also confirmed that any DCEU events referenced or shown in Creature Commandos are automatically canon, which will likely spark some interesting online debates.
In a recent interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, James Gunn and Dean Lorey discussed the upcoming animated series Creature Commandos. Gunn joked about the title for Peacemaker Season 2 and teased a moment that would be removed from the canon.
When asked if Season 2 would have a subtitle like The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, Gunn laughed and gave a humorous response.
“I think Peacemaker Season 2, asterisk, no Justice League happened in Peacemaker Season 1. [Laughs]”
Gunn also confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 is nearly done filming. He expressed his excitement about editing the episodes, mentioning that editing is his favorite part, and he can’t wait to dive into it soon.
