James Gunn Hints at Possible Title for Batman and Superman Team-Up Movie
Over a year ago, James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled the lineup of projects for their newly reimagined DCU, the successor to the DCEU. Fans can anticipate an exciting range of upcoming movies, live-action TV shows, and animated projects.
The DCU will officially kick off with the release of “Creature Commandos,” but its live-action journey will begin next year with “Superman,” which both Gunn and Safran view as the true starting point of the new cinematic universe.
The casting for Superman and his supporting characters is nearly complete, but we’re still waiting for announcements about who will play Batman and Wonder Woman. While we shouldn’t expect any Avengers-style crossovers or team-up movies in the near future, James Gunn recently hinted at a possible title for a Batman/Superman team-up film.
Gunn shared a Labor Day post on his private Instagram account, where a fan asked: “Hi Mr Gunn, in the hypothetical case that a movie starring only Superman and Batman (teaming) came out, what would you call it? Superman and Batman or Batman and Superman?😉🧜♂️“
Gunn answered that it would be called ‘World’s Finest.’
Another DC fan followed up on Gunn’s mention of the “World’s Finest” title, asking if it was officially part of the DCU lineup. Gunn did not provide a response to that question.
As I’ve mentioned before, the DCU has not yet announced its Batman, although several interesting names have been suggested. A team-up movie likely won’t happen anytime soon, as Gunn will probably want to establish Batman on his own before bringing him together with Superman on-screen.
Regarding the title, “World’s Finest” has long been associated with Batman and Superman since DC Comics first published a series featuring both heroes in 1941. Initially called “World’s Best Comics,” it was renamed “World’s Finest Comics” with its second issue and began as a quarterly anthology showcasing stories about Batman, Superman, Robin, and other DC heroes. By the 1950s, it became a regular comic series focused primarily on Batman and Superman, creating the format that many DC fans recognize today.
