We’ve already talked about how James Gunn established himself as one of the most known filmmakers in both Marvel and DC. Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad director’s newest project — Peacemaker — recently premiered on HBOMax, and the production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently underway. Except for writer and director, there’s one more thing that these two projects have in common — actor Chukwudi Iwuji — who plays Clemson Murn in Peacemaker, and he’s also set to star in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in an undisclosed role.
Back when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 started production, Gunn announced that he enjoyed working with Iwuji on Peacemaker so he almost immediately offered him a role in the upcoming Marvel project. Now, Gunn hyped Iwuji’s role even more, although he still didn’t want to reveal what role Iwuji actually has in the newest Guardians movie.
“Chukwudi, who plays Murn in Peacemaker, is one of the main characters in the movie and people are freaking out over how good this guy is. Literally freaking out. I think that I’m really happy. I gave a bunch of scenes to Marvel right before Christmas break. Kevin [Feige] went… They were all really, really, really stoked. But also, it’s not going to be the movie people… It’s different than what people are going to expect. It’s a hard road, but I’m really happy with it so far.” — James Gunn for Collider
The first three (out of eight) episodes of Peacemaker are now streaming on HBOMax. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now in production and it’s set to be released on May 5, 2023. Iwuji isn’t the only newcomer in the movie. Will Poulter is also set to debut as Adam Warlock, while known stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and Sean Gunn are all returning for their respective roles.
