James Gunn Shuts Down Rumor of DC Studios Seeking a Middle-Aged Batman, Calling It “Bull****”

We’re just under two months away from the official launch of the DCU with the release of the animated series ‘Creature Commandos.’ While both Gunn and Safran have previously stated that the true beginning will be ‘Superman,’ set for a 2025 release.
The cast of the DCU is gradually taking shape. Superman, Supergirl, and several key Green Lanterns have already been cast, but there has been no news regarding the potential casting of Batman.
DCU’s Batman is set to make his debut in the movie ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ which is based on the DC comics storyline of the same name. However, details about the project are scarce, with most Batman-related news coming from Reeves’ Batman Crime Epic Saga Universe.
Recently, a rumor surfaced claiming that Gunn is searching for a middle-aged Batman, which did not sit well with fans who often cast actors like Jensen Ackles and Allan Ritchson in the role.
Although the original post has been deleted from Threads, Gunn’s denial of the rumor remains.

While the rumor is likely fabricated, it isn’t entirely unfounded. In the past, Gunn has mentioned that Batman could be older than Clark Kent in the DCU, indicating that their ages do not need to align for the story to work.
I’m pretty sure I didn’t say that. What I said was Bruce “could be” a couple years older than Clark. All I meant was I wasn’t tied to Bruce and Clark being the exact same age.
Fans continue to speculate on the casting for ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ which will introduce the Bat-Family to the DCU. Bruce Wayne is expected to be in his mid-thirties, narrowing down the list of potential actors for the role.
