James Gunn is juggling a busy schedule, with Superman having just wrapped filming a few weeks ago and production ongoing for the second season of Peacemaker. As he works to revitalize the DC Universe from the remnants of the unsuccessful DCEU, fans are generally enthusiastic about the new direction, though the director still faces some controversies.

Gunn, known for his work on Guardians of the Galaxy, has been frequently criticized by fans unhappy with the end of the DCEU and various other issues.

As an active presence on social media, James Gunn frequently addresses misconceptions and clarifies his creative process. His latest response came from a fan question on Threads, where the fan inquired whether the release schedule for upcoming projects might be rearranged, noting the previously unclear timeline and implied changes in release order.

Gunn clarified that the projects were never announced in a strict sequence and that the only real shuffle was with the Waller TV show. He emphasized that they would never begin filming a project without a finished script, a practice not always followed by other studios.

Filming without a finished script can lead to budget overruns, as unplanned changes or additional reshoots to accommodate script revisions can significantly increase costs. Recent examples include Daredevil: Born Again, which faced extensive reshoots due to major script changes, and Captain America: Brave New World, which saw its budget balloon after additional reshoots.

James Gunn’s practice of starting filming only with a completed script might be why he seldom requires reshoots, as he recently noted. He hinted that Superman, set for release in 2025, is unlikely to undergo reshoots, which has pleased fans.
