‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Reshoots Reportedly Cost an Additional $100 Million

Captain America: Brave New World is going to be released on February 14, 2025, as things stand now as one of the first movies of the MCU‘s Phase Five. The movie will star Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America, taking over from Steve Rogers, who was played by Chris Evans in the earlier movies. Now, while Mackie will be joined by some old and some new faces, as we have reported, and while the movie is highly anticipated, there have been a lot of problems with the delivery, and we know that the movie went through some extensive reshoots. The release date is, as it seems, not in danger as of the time of writing, but the budget was severely increased, according to a report.

This report comes from World of Reel, a portal dedicated to film, which claims to have spoken to an insider who knows the current state of affairs when the Captain America: Brave New World movie. Based on this report, the reshoots cost so much that it seemed, at one point, that Marvel was shooting a completely new movie.

As stated, the project is a highly anticipated one. Alongside Mackie, who is poised to become the new leader of the Avengers after this solo venture, the movie will see Danny Ramirez reprise his role as Joaquin Torres, the new Falcon, from the series, as will Carl Lumby, who is returning as Isaiah Bradley. Also, characters from the MCU’s first Hulk movie will be returning, so we will once again see Tim Blake Nelson (as Samuel Sterns / Leader), Liv Tyler (as Betty Ross), and the character of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who will be played by Harrison Ford following William Hurt’s passing. As stated, the movie is coming out in February 2025, which is the current scheduled release date.

As for the budget, initial reports claimed that the movie had an original budget of $275 million, which was a very large budget, and it meant that the movie would have to earn more than $500 million to turn a profit, and seeing how we’re dealing with a Captain America movie without the original Captain America – Chris Evans – many commentators doubted that the movie would be so successful.

But, unluck seldom comes alone, so the movie had to go through extensive reshoots, and it seemed that they cost an additional $100 million, based on the above-mentioned report. This means that with a total budget of around $400 million, the movie would have to earn close to $1 billion to turn a profit, and that seems unlikely. The future of the MCU is very unclear at this moment, and we might be in for some serious restructuring following the release of several upcoming projects.
