James Gunn is working hard to build a new movie universe from what’s left of the old DCEU. Gunn already has experience with superhero movies; he’s the creator behind the hit Guardians of the Galaxy series in the MCU.

With lots of action stars in his past projects, Gunn’s recent comments could upset some fans of his past work.

2025 is set to be Superman’s big year, marking the true start of the new DCU in theaters. David Corenswet is gearing up to play the Man of Steel, and he’s already going through a big physical transformation for the role.

At the recent NYCC panel, Gunn shared updates on Superman and gave fans a hint of what to expect. He praised Corenswet, even calling him the best action star he’s ever worked with.

Krypto, that’s been something that’s just been amazing. We’ve been
working with him in the edit. He’s an incredible part of the story to me
personally. When I was writing the screenplay, he came in and kind of
changed everything up. We’re deep in the process of editing. David
Corenswet is going to fucking blow people away. He is the movie star
that everyone just dreams he could possibly be. I don’t think anyone
really understands the depth of this guy’s talent dramatically,
comedically.

He’s the best physical action star I’ve probably ever
worked with…I feel good about it, and I’m really hard on stuff, so it’s
been fantastic… It won’t be too long before we see a trailer, but it
also won’t be too soon.

Remember, Gunn has already worked with major action stars, including Dave Bautista, known for his impressive build, Chris Pratt, who underwent a huge transformation to play a superhero, as well as John Cena and Will Smith, among others.

Hearing Gunn call David Corenswet the best action star left many fans surprised.
