Matt Reeves’ epic Batman saga continues to grow. After the success of The Batman, the universe expanded with The Penguin spinoff show, which has received high praise from critics and fans. The spinoff has set up Penguin as a major villain for the franchise’s future.
Recently, Matt Reeves hinted at the next villain for The Batman: Part II, and many fans believe he could be referring to the Court of Owls. However, this doesn’t rule out other popular villains like Mr. Freeze, especially since the winter setting of the film could hint at his appearance.
Meanwhile, James Gunn recently shared that Reeves hasn’t delivered the script yet for the movie, which has already faced delays. This means the villain and other details could still change.
In an interview with The Movie Dweeb, Jeffrey Wright, who plays Jim Gordon, shared a surprising idea for the next Batman villain. He suggested James Gordon Jr., Gordon’s son who turns into a villain in the comics, as a compelling choice. Wright also hinted that he has “some ideas” about who could play the role but didn’t name anyone.
There’s a lot to choose from. You know, Gordon actually has a son who becomes somewhat nefarious. That could be a possibility
Jim Gordon’s son, James, first appeared as a baby in Batman: Year One in 1987 but vanished from the story until 2011, when he returned as a villain. Writer Scott Snyder revealed that James showed signs of being a psychopath as a child and grew into a dangerous serial killer in Gotham.
His story could work perfectly for a Batman who truly lives up to being the World’s Greatest Detective.
In a recent interview, Jeffrey Wright also talked about Gordon’s absence from The Penguin series. He explained why the character wasn’t involved and hinted at what might be coming in the future.
There was no talk of my being in this first season. (…) Who knows? We’ll see what happens down the line, but I’m juggling enough balls as it is.
