Jujutsu Kaisen: Are Yuji Itadori & Aoi Todo Brothers? Relationship Explained!

The bromance between Aoi Todo from Kyoto and Yuji Itadori from Tokyo is one of the most popular relationships in the series. And while we’re certain that some fans will ship these two together, there is absolutely nothing romantic between them in Jujutsu Kaisen. However, this relationship is still quite specific, especially since Todo generally refers to Yuji as his brother. In this article, we are going to explain the nature of the relationship between Aoi Todo and Yuji Itadori and, through that, explain whether the two of them are brothers in the series or not. What is the nature of the relationship between Yuji and Aoi Todo?

Aoi Todo is a third-year and strongest student at the Kyoto Metropolitan Curse Technical College. As you know, Aoi Todo debuted as a student in Kyoto during the Goodwill Event Arc. Despite his appearance, he was not a bully or a brute. In addition to being extremely powerful and educated, he also exhibited narcissistic traits in his interactions with other people.

Although it was his mission to kill Yuji Itadori, he grew quite close to the man and even fought beside him when they were enemies. Because of their similar personalities, they could bond, and Aoi became so fond of Yuji’s battling spirit that he no longer wanted to complete his objective.

Aoi would reappear during the Shibuya Incident Arc, where he was among the sorcerers who entered the barriers to fight against the curses. He actually arrived in time to interrupt the battle between Yuji and Mahito, intervening to help his friend against the powerful curse.

This is Yuji’s and Aoi’s story in short. They started their shared story as enemies but ended up becoming friends. Suppose you think there might be a ship coming here. In that case, we have to refute that immediately and tell you that there is absolutely nothing romantic in the relationship between Aoi and Yuji. It’s not just that it would be weird, considering that they call each other brother, but both have been quite explicit when stating that they like girls – in fact, Aoi Todo usually starts off a conversation with someone by asking them what type of girls they like, which was also a talking point between him and Yuji, so no – there is nothing romantic between the two of them.

Aoi Todo and Yuji are great friends. They are very close to each other, and in that aspect, they can easily be considered best friends. They bonded rather quickly, but they were both very pragmatic characters, so when they found out that they had a lot in common, they simply “fell in love” with each other. Since then, they have been best friends in Jujutsu Kaisen, although they don’t see each other that often, as they live in different cities.

But, an interesting aspect here is that since they became friends, Aoi has been calling Yuji his brother. Aoi Todo and Yuji Itadori – and we can confirm that – are not related and are not actual brothers, and unless Akutami suddenly decides to change Aoi’s story, this fact won’t change in the future.

So, the reason why Aoi Todo calls Yuji his brother is because he actually considers Yuji as his brother. The two of them are so alike and are so close that Aoi simply perceives them as brothers, and he is free to express that. This is an indicator of how tight their bond is and how strong their friendship is, so – ultimately – we can only agree that “brother” is more than precise when we’re talking about the friendship between Todo and Itadori.
