Mahito is a major villain in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga and anime. An important member of Pseudo-Geto’s team of villains, Mahito caused trouble for the Jujutsu Sorcerers and is infamously known for causing the deaths of Kento Nanami, Mechamaru, and (apparently) Nobara Kugisaki. He is one of the most despised villains in the series, so when he finally perished, most fans were happy to see him gone. Mahito is going to be the focus of this article as well, as we are going to talk about his relationship with Junpei. Did Junpei, perhaps, create Mahito? Keep reading to find out the answer to this important question!

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Mahito is a villain in Jujutsu Kaisen, a powerful cursed spirit who is actually the embodiment of the hatred that people have for each other in the world, which is why he is so powerful.
  • Junpei Yoshino is a secondary character from the series, a young boy with a sad backstory whom Mahito prayed upon as he considered him to be a very practical victim.
  • Since he appeared when Junpei was in the movie theater, some fans think that Mahito was actually created by Junpei, but these theories are not correct, although Mahito’s origins remain unknown.

There are some theories that Junpei created Mahito

Mahito is a character that we have talked about more than once here, and despite being so hated, he is very popular with the fans of the series. He is intriguing, we have to give him that, and in that aspect, we can confirm that there is a lot to talk about. His origins are an often-discussed topic, and due to them being unknown, fans have begun to craft their own theories, which resulted in this question, posted by Reddit user letmepeeinpeace:

We know how some high-level curses are created, via. negative emotions of people with high cursed energy. Only time we saw a curse created (as far as I remember) was when rika died and yuta created a curse with his negative emotions. We also know junpei is also a curse manipulator type of jujutsu sorcerer(like yuta). Maybe mahito is created from junpei’s negative emotions towards the bullies?

The timeline fits. Mahito first appeared when Junpei saw the bullies and expressed his deep hatred for them. We also know that Mahito is the embodiment of the hatred that people have for each other, which also fits this theory. Combining this with the fact, as the theory states, that we know that such emotions can create a powerful cursed spirit – as in the case of Yuta and Rika – we have a very solid interpretation of the scene that can potentially explain Mahito’s origins in the series.

We can confirm that Mahito’s exact origins in the series are unknown, which leaves space for interpretation, but we are about to explain why we think that this theory is not correct and that it was just a coincidence.

Although Mahito’s origins remain unknown, he was definitely not created by Junpei

We are aware that cursed energy can take on many different forms. Cursed spirits are actual beings that are physical representations of cursed energy, and this is one way it manifests itself in the world. So, how precisely are they born? Cursed Spirits are essentially embodiments of negative human emotions. However, the precise way of their birth is unknown. Whatever the actual emotion is, it is always negative. It may be anger toward someone or something, fear, worry, or anything similar – as long as it is negative, it can bring about the birth of a Cursed Spirit. This is what we have said above.

Now, Mahito’s origins are not known, but we really don’t think that Junpei gave birth to him:

Mahito is a much “bigger” curse than that. He’s born from all of humans fear and hatred towards each other. Just like how hanami was created from negative emotions that people have with forests etc.

So yes technically junpeis hatred and fear of ppl definitely had a part (albeit very small) in “creating” Mahito.

Rika is a different case cuz she was an actual person who died and whose spirit was cursed cuz of Yutas emotions.

Mahito Jogo Hanami etc are pure curses originating from negative emotions

As the anonymous Reddit comment states, Mahito is much bigger than just one character. Sure, Junpei’s emotions are in line with those that brought Mahito to life, but it wasn’t Junpei directly – by all means, he had nothing to do with Mahito’s creation. Mahito has probably been around for a much longer time and was simply attracted to Junpei’s hatred as a means of finding him rather than anything else. But no, Junpei did definitely not bring about the creation of Mahito.
