Jujutsu Kaisen: Did Mahito Kill Todo? Here’s What Happened!
The Shibuya Incident undoubtedly brought us a set of exceptionally intriguing battles, and with the anime’s second season nearing its end, we’re left with the most thrilling and interesting fights from this arc. The fight against Mahito is certainly one of the most interesting ones: he first fought Nanami, then Yuji, then Yuji and Nobara, then Yuji again, then Aoi Todo, and finally Yuji and Todo together. And while we know what happened to Yuji in that fight, we’re now going to tell you what happened to Aoi Todo in this fight, i.e., whether Mahito actually killed him in this fight or not.
Why didn’t Mahito kill Todo in Jujutsu Kaisen?
The story begins late into the Shibuya Incident when Mahito, hiding in a photo booth, witnesses an injured Kento walk past him. Mahito touches Kento’s chest, and they have a brief talk after Kento kills a large group of transfigured humans. As Yuji unexpectedly shows up, Mahito kills Kento in front of his eyes and turns his focus to the teenager. Yuji lunges forward, but Mahito blocks him.
Next, Yuji questions Mahito about how he can kill so quickly. Mahito responds that Yuji cannot win unless he accepts that he is him. When Mahito tries to penetrate Yuji’s heart, the latter sidesteps and strikes back. Mahito recalls, congratulates Yuji, and announces that round two is now ready. Yuji follows Mahito as they battle on, with the latter striking from a distance.
At the same time, a clone of Mahito’s was fighting Nobara on the surface, and Nobara was able to injure Mahito, after which the clone decided to retreat and unite with the original body. When that happened, Mahito was able to attack Nobara and seemingly kill her, which broke Yuji completely and had Aoi Todo not come, Mahito would have killed Yuji. And this is when the fight between Aoi and Mahito starts.
In fact, Aoi Todo came right in time to stop Mahito from killing the broken Yuji, stepping in to support his friend in overcoming the strong curse. In addition to giving Mahito a lot of trouble, he defeated his transformed humans, which improved the situation for him and Yuji.
During that fight, he also displayed some amazing moves, but Mahito was still able to touch one of his arms, forcing Aoi to rip it off in order to save his life. He was able to utilize his Boogie Woogie once to assist Yuji in landing a strike, but other than that, it was mostly ineffective. Later, he bluffed Mahito into believing he would use it, even though he never did.
This allowed Yuji to land another strike on Mahito and win. Mahito was, thus, unable to defeat his two opponents, even though he had Yuji down and Todo without an arm. It wasn’t that Mahito did not want to kill both of them; he did – but he was simply unable to do it.
Mahito failed to kill Yuji because Aoi Todo saved Yuji, as he arrived just in time to save his brother Yuji, allowing Nitta to heal him while Todo kept Mahito busy. Mahito also wanted to kill Aoi Todo, but he could not, as Aoi avoided his touch and later had help from Yuji. Sure, Aoi did lose an arm, as we have said, but that was it – they did not die.
We know that the battle ended with Mahito’s defeat, and Aoi Todo and Yuji were really close to killing Mahito, and they would have done it had Kenjaku not arrived. Namely, Kenjaku could not allow Yuji and Todo to exorcise Mahito, as Mahito’s power was simply too valuable to him, so he used Geto’s power to absorb Mahito inside him, thereby sparing him from being exorcised, effectively killing him himself. And that is – more or less – what happened in the story and how Mahito’s story ended, i.e., how his fight with Todo ended.
