Jujutsu Kaisen: Here Is What Yuji Itadori Said to Mahito! (& Why!)
Each of the arcs had some major battles, but the Shibuya Incident Arc of Jujutsu Kaisen had – so far – given us a set of amazing ones, including the epic clash between Yuji and Mahito, which was the last major battle of the arc. Seeing Nanami’s death, Yuji charged Mahito without thinking, and the battle became an epic clash between two hated enemies. But, aside from the battle, there was much between the two of them, as Mahito and Yuji had a special relationship; Mahito actually wanted to convince Yuji that they were the same, and something happened at the end of that battle, something that was shown in Yuji’s monologue. What? Keep reading to find out!
What did Yuji say to Mahito? The “I’m you” monologue explained!
Let us now start by showing you what Yuji actually said to Mahito in this crucial moment:
“You’re right, Mahito. I’m you. I wanted to reject you, convince myself that you were wrong. But that doesn’t matter now. I’m gonna kill you. Even if you come back as another curse, I’ll kill you. Change your name. Change your form. I’ll kill you again. I don’t need to find meaning or a reason. Maybe in a hundred years after my death, the meaning behind my actions will become apparent. In the grand scheme of things… I’m probably nothing more than a cog. But I’ll keep killing curses… for as long as I can. That’s my role in all this.”
– Yuji Itadori, Jujutsu Kaisen Ch. 132
The dialogue we showed you was taken from a translation of the manga, so the anime translation might be a bit different, but the gist of it remains the same. After defeating him, Yuji finally told Mahito that he understood him and that he had a role to play. In his role in the series, in that war, he had to defeat and kill Mahito, which is what he was ultimately determined to do.
And that is the meaning of this epic monologue from the series, one of the best ones in Jujutsu Kaisen. The monologue is pretty straightforward, so just enjoy it once again, while we end this article, as we have provided you with what you came for.
