The story of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series is slowly progressing, and the most recent arc, the one adapting the infamous Shibuya Incident, has provided us with numerous thrilling moments and characters, one of which will be the topic of this article. Takuma Ino, a character introduced as Nanami’s “protege,” so to speak, finally got a chance to shine as he faced Ogami and her “grandson” in Shibuya, but he had the misfortune of meeting Toji, which almost cost him his life. Ino has become a popular mock character online, earning the nickname “Shiesty Sorcerer,” and in this article, we are going to explain why.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Takuma Ino is a Jujutsu sorcerer who was introduced as a sort of “protege” of Kento Nanami. The two of them seem to be close, and Ino values and respects Nanami very much.
  • He is quite self-confident, although he generally lacks the practice to back it up; ironically, Nanami has assessed his abilities as being very high, explaining that Ino simply doesn’t use his full potential.
  • Due to the fact that he is not an overly reliable character while, at the same time, being quite confident about himself, Takuma Ino has been given the nickname “Shiesty Sorcerer” by the fans, which is in line with the fact that he is wearing a ski mask.

Takuma Ino became a popular character by accident

Takuma Ino is a secondary character from the Jujutsu Kaisen series. He is as secondary as they get, although Akutami did give him some space to shine. He is a grade 2 jujutsu sorcerer who operates from Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College as his base. He was 20 years old in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which means that he is 21 years old now.

This would likely indicate that he attended Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College in the past, which would account for his connection to both the institution and Kento Nanami, another former student. He and Nanami are close friends, and he holds great regard for his mentor, who also has a high opinion of his pupil. A scene from the past showed them conversing and Nanami complimenting his abilities. Ino also made it very evident that he valued Nanami’s viewpoint and desired to advance based on her recommendation.

He made his debut alongside Nanami during the Vs. Mahito Arc, where he was once again seen tidying up the mess Mahito had made with his transfigured humans. After complaining a little, Ino concluded that Nanami’s departure to assist Yuji was the right course of action. Based on how much time he spends with Nanami, it appears that he is a huge fan of the character and is essentially a fanboy.

His role in the story earned him a pretty silly nickname – “Shiesty Sorcerer”

Now, in order to actually clarify why Takuma Ino is known as “Shiesty Sorcerer” among the fans, let us first explain what “shiesty” means:

“‘Shiesty’ is a slang term that is often used to describe someone who is untrustworthy, deceitful, dishonest, or shady in their actions or dealings. It is typically used to criticize or call out someone for engaging in questionable or unethical behavior, especially when it involves deceit or betrayal.

For example, if someone were to say, ‘I can’t believe he stole my money; he’s so shiesty,’ they would be expressing their disapproval of the person’s dishonest actions.

‘Shiesty’ is commonly used in informal or colloquial language, and its usage may vary by region or community. It’s important to note that it is an informal term and may not be appropriate in formal or professional settings.”

Taken from Quora, this definition is in line with what we know in general (source). But, while this is the main slang definition of the word “shiesty”, Wiktionary also states that it can signify a “black ski mask or balaclava.” And what is Ino’s trademark? His ski mask!

As you can see, the nickname has a double meaning here. One, it signifies that Ino is quite unreliable: he is powerful, but he lacks the practice. He has potential, but his fighting skills are mediocre. He believes he can beat’em all and has a lot of confidence, but he has been beaten and almost killed by Toji in a matter of seconds. This is the first aspect. The second is even simpler and is a reference to the fact that he wears a black ski mask. And this is all there is to it, as far as Ino’s nickname is concerned.
