Like the Jujutsu Kaisen’s Shibuya Incident Arc, the Culling Game Arc will also introduce us to a series of new characters, as well as expand the stories of currently known characters. Both these arcs were large and long, so it doesn’t surprise us that Akutami used them to introduce new characters to the lore. One of these characters is Rin Amai, a student from Sendai City whom Kenjaku involuntarily turned into a sorcerer and made him part of his twisted Culling Game. Rin has yet to make an appearance in the anime, and while we’re waiting for that, we are going to tell you all you need to know about this character.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Rin Amai is a secondary character from Jujutsu Kaisen. He was a student from Sendai City who was turned into a jujutsu sorcerer against his will by Kenjaku,
  • He was forced to participate in the Culling Game, initially as an unwilling accomplice to Haba and Hanyu, until he was saved by Itadori, who went to the same school as him.
  • Later in the series, he saw a falling Hana Kurusu after her fight with Sukuna and then used his powers to save her, effectively saving her life.

Rin’s history can be described as – being in the wrong place at the wrong time

Rin was, by all means, not a bad person. He was naive and kindhearted, but while he was still in school – which is where he met Itadori – he hung around a group of bullies. Sure, he somewhat patronized them as he thought they were stupid and wrong in how they behaved, but he still hung around them because he was a coward and thought that he would be safe if he remained close to them.

One time, he observed the bullied beat up one of their victims while Itadori was just watching them. At one point, Yuji intervened and beat the sh*t out of the three bullies, which impressed Rin, but as Yuji turned to him, he simply ran away, scared that Yuji would beat him up as well. Because of this act of cowardice, the bullies later beat him up. And while these were standard issues for his age, Rin had the misfortune of being targeted by Kenjaku.

The evil sorcerer Marked Rin at one point, which resulted in him becoming a jujutsu sorcerer against his will. He would soon be sucked into the chaos of the Culling Game, also against his will, which put him in a series of difficult situations, resulting in some new experiences for the boy, but also in him proving his worth and the fact that he is not an evil person. We are now going to reveal what happened to the boy during the Culling Game.

He played a relatively significant role in the Culling Game

As far as the Culling Game is concerned, Rin Amai had a very rough start. Namely, before Yuji and Megumi entered the first Tokyo Colony, he was found by Haba and Hanyu, two villains who coerced him into helping them with new players, whom he lured into being killed by the two. You can imagine that he wasn’t satisfied with this, but being a coward, he went along with their plan, just like he followed the bullies in school.

At one point, Hanyu complained to Rin because of a lack of newcomers, to which Rin replied that there was nothing he could do about it; Hanyu then threatened to kill him for talking back to her, after which Rin apologized. Not long after that, Yuji entered the first colony and fought Hanyu, whom he defeated, and then Haba, whom he also managed to defeat. Rin was observing that from a distance and when he recognized Itadori, he introduced himself to the boy; Yuji did not remember him, but he relaxed when he found out that the two of them were from the same town.

Rin told him that he knew where Hiromi Higuruma was and took him to the theater that was Higuruma’s base of operations; Higuruma would later prove pivotal during the fight against Sukuna in Shinjuku.

Rin later saw a falling Hana Kurusu and used his cursed technique to stop her fall, effectively saving her life, after she had been injured by Sukuna. He later talked to Yuji about his insecurities and apologized for not having the courage to help them face Sukuna and Kenjaku; Yuji thanked him nevertheless, especially for saving Hana’s life, and went. Rin is presumably still alive in the series, although we don’t know what’s going on with him.
