There’s some big news for anyone who loves Batman and anime. Kevin Conroy, the voice actor we all know as Batman from the classic animated series and games like the Arkham series, is making one last appearance. He’s starring in Netflix’s new Devil May Cry anime, even though he passed away in 2022 at age 66 after fighting cancer. How? His voice work was recorded years ago, and now we get to hear it in this upcoming show.

Conroy plays a brand-new character named VP Baines in the Devil May Cry series. If you check out the latest teaser trailer Netflix dropped, you’ll hear his voice right at the start. The show’s creator, Adi Shankar, said Conroy’s performance is amazing and that no AI was used—just pure talent from the man himself. Shankar called it an honor to work with him, and I can’t blame him. Conroy was a legend to so many of us.

The anime hits Netflix on April 3, 2025, and it’s based on the Devil May Cry video games from Capcom. The story follows Dante, a demon hunter who doesn’t know the fate of two worlds—human and demon—is tied to him. Things get wild as dark forces try to rip open a portal between those realms. Johnny Yong Bosch, who voices Dante, said it was a thrill to record with Conroy a few years back. Animation takes time, so these sessions happened well before Conroy’s passing.

This isn’t Conroy’s first posthumous role—he was in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 3 last year—but it’s still special. The cast also includes Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary, Hoon Lee as White Rabbit, and Chris Coppola as Enzo. Studio Mir, the South Korean team behind stuff like The Legend of Korra, is handling the animation. Shankar’s running the show, and he’s got a track record with projects like Dredd and Captain Laserhawk.

I’m excited to hear Conroy one more time, and this anime looks packed with action. If you’ve played the games, you know it’s going to be intense. Mark your calendars for April 3rd—Dante’s demon-hunting adventure is almost here, and Kevin Conroy’s voice will kick it off in style.
