‘Lanterns’ Episode 7 Preview Is Racking up Views at a Pace Fans Are Comparing To ‘Game of Thrones’
HBO’s ‘Lanterns‘ has quickly turned into one of the fall’s biggest TV conversations. The series premiered on Aug. 16, 2026, and has aired one episode each Sunday on HBO and HBO Max. The 8-episode season is built around a mystery that pulls John Stewart and Hal Jordan into a murder investigation in the American heartland.
Its path to public ratings recognition hasn’t been smooth. ‘Lanterns’ missed Nielsen’s streaming Top 10 during its first 2 weeks, then landed at No. 8 with 500 million minutes watched for the week of Aug. 31 to Sept. 6. Because the show also airs on HBO’s cable channel, Nielsen measures it against the acquired list instead of the originals chart.
That backdrop explains why a single social post is getting attention right now. On Sept. 21, the account Green Lantern DCU Updates posted on X that the episode 7 preview had nearly 700,000 views after only 9 hours, adding that it’s peak ‘Game of Thrones’ numbers.
The post itself is smaller than the video it describes, with about 12,400 views, 1,500 likes, 70 reposts, 49 bookmarks, and 5 replies. The ‘Game of Thrones’ comparison is the account’s own framing, and it’s worth remembering that trailer views measure curiosity, not how many people actually watch an episode. Still, 725,000 views in under a day is a solid sign of interest for a show that has been playing catch-up in the ratings.

Fans in the replies were happy to run with it. One said they love John Stewart in this episode, while another responded with a burst of excitement. It’s the kind of reaction that suggests the preview is doing its job of building momentum heading into the final stretch.

The episode itself arrives Sunday, Sept. 27, at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max. It is the penultimate chapter, and one preview report suggests it should follow John’s first conversation with the Halogram after he recovers Hal Jordan’s ring from the grave. That leaves the series with 2 episodes to resolve Hal’s murder and the fallout from Rushville.

The numbers around the show are also improving. Nielsen’s daily data showed ‘Lanterns’ as the most-watched program across all U.S. streaming on Monday, Sept. 14, with 138 million minutes viewed after a new episode dropped the night before. That is a strong showing for a series that had trouble showing up on weekly charts just weeks earlier.
The earlier HBO spinoff didn’t reach Nielsen’s weekly Top 10 until the week after its finale, while ‘Lanterns’ got there with only 4 episodes available. That comparison has fueled plenty of online chatter about how efficiently the new show is converting its episodes into viewership.
The season wraps up with its finale on Oct. 4. No second season has been confirmed at the time of writing, so the final 2 episodes carry extra weight. For now, the preview’s early numbers suggest audiences are still very much locked in.
