Leslye Headland Reaffirms Anakin’s Role as the Chosen One, Dodging Fan Backlash Post-Episode 7: “They will never achieve what that is”

The latest episode of ‘The Acolyte’ confirmed our long-held suspicions: twins Osha and Mae bear a striking resemblance to Anakin. Episode 7 revealed the true purpose behind the Jedi’s mission to Brendok—they were in search of the so-called Force Vergence, a unique area where the Force is exceptionally strong and fluid, allowing adept Force users to harness and manipulate it.

During their investigation, the Jedi discovered through blood analysis that Vergence played a crucial role in the creation of Osha and Mae. The twins possess a remarkable sensitivity to the Force, with a unique Force signature that appears as though a single entity has been split into two, a phenomenon achievable only through Vergence.

The discovery of the twins felt too reminiscent of the movies. Qui-Gon Jinn had once found a vergence centered around a child (Anakin), who turned out to be extraordinarily special, with his status as the Chosen One impacting every life in the galaxy, for better or worse.

Fans had objections to this similarity, preferring Osha and Mae to have a more original storyline instead of being tied to Anakin’s, which remains one of the most pivotal in Star Wars canon.

In a subsequent interview, Headland defended the decision, suggesting that fans were focusing on the wrong aspects. She explained that the power that created Anakin had existed for thousands of years and could have been accessed by many, including the Witches of Brendok.

In her latest interview with Nerdist, Headland clarified the differences between Anakin and the twins. She emphasized that Anakin’s status as the Chosen One remains uncontested. The twins, she explained, were “a preview” of the Chosen One, making them significantly less powerful than Anakin.

It’s like when you’re doing an experiment and it’s the first round of it. They are maybe not the first, but one of the first experiments of this particular use of power.

So the twins are weaker than Anakin, for sure. They are going to fall short of what will eventually become the Chosen One. They will never achieve what that is, because in my mind, Aniseya could only do so much. She’s not powerful enough to create one person. The twins split, Aniseya’s power split, and therefore a lot of her philosophy is about the power of two. About the fact that they must stay together. They must stay together. The twins are stronger together if she keeps them together. And obviously there’s an analogy to this of the isolationist feeling, not just of the coven, but also of family. “If I can keep you safe, if I can keep you safe then you won’t get hurt. You won’t get hurt.

I have to admit, this is a clever twist. If the twins hadn’t split, they might have rivaled Anakin’s power. This also explains why Mother Aniseya worked so hard to keep the girls together and why both she and Mother Korin were heartbroken when Osha wanted to join the Jedi Order.

However, it also suggests that Mother Korin is the Sith behind Qimir’s training. Qimir is seeking the power of two, which refers to the twins. The only person who could have known about their background is Mother Korin—a witch who conveniently survived that tragic night in the fortress.
