Leslye Headland Reveals How New Force Power Links Witches of Brendok to Jedi Order’s Greatest Figures

This week’s episode of ‘The Acolyte’ sparked mixed reactions, particularly concerning its depiction of the Jedi. However, it also clarified the connection between Osha, Mae, and the Force Vergence, introducing new Force abilities previously unseen in live-action Star Wars.
Notably, Mother Aniseya and Mother Korin of the Witches of Brendok demonstrated the ability to transform into ethereal black smoke at key points in the episode.
Witnessing this event caused Master Sol to completely lose control, resulting in him killing Mother Aniseya, setting off a chain of events that launched the entire plot of ‘The Acolyte.’
Despite its association with the Dark Side, the power appears visually impressive. In her recent interview with Nerdist, Leslye Headland clarified that we’ve seen a similar power in action before, as it closely aligns with the ability to transform into a Force Spirit.
What she is doing is what Jecki says in episode four, that it’s an honor to see anyone transform into the Force. I believe that Aniseya is transforming herself and Mae into the Force in a way that doesn’t kill them.
The Witches of Brendok have already demonstrated considerable power, likely due to their unique philosophy and the Force Vergence on their planet. However, their latest revelation suggests they can harness abilities previously inaccessible even to figures like Palpatine and reserved only for the most revered Jedi in history.
In the Star Wars galaxy, becoming a Force ghost is a rare and advanced skill achieved by Jedi who deeply comprehend the Force, enabling them to maintain their consciousness after death. Examples include Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Anakin Skywalker.
Force ghosts typically manifest to guide and mentor living Jedi or those sensitive to the Force, imparting crucial wisdom, advice, and teachings essential for combating darkness and maintaining balance.
However, it appears that the Witches of Brendok can achieve this ability at will and without extensive preparation. They can perform this feat while still alive, without relinquishing their physical form. The ease with which such a potent coven was obliterated due to a mere misunderstanding is certainly intriguing.
