Disney’s live-action “Lilo & Stitch” keeps smashing records at the box office. The movie has now overtaken Warner Bros. and Legendary’s “A Minecraft Movie” to become the highest-grossing MPA film worldwide in 2025.

According to new numbers, “Lilo & Stitch” has made $957.6 million globally, with $553.9 million coming from international markets. Meanwhile, “A Minecraft Movie” stands just behind with $954.9 million worldwide and $530.9 million internationally. These two movies are the only ones to cross the $900 million mark so far this year.

“Lilo & Stitch” is in its sixth week at theaters and is still on track to become the first billion-dollar movie of 2025. While “Lilo & Stitch” has the lead globally, “A Minecraft Movie” holds the edge domestically in the U.S., making $423.9 million compared to “Lilo & Stitch”’s $403.7 million. Both films are also the only ones to earn over $400 million in the U.S. this year.

The success of “Lilo & Stitch” shows how strong nostalgic, female-led movies can be at the box office. The movie’s audience is 62% women, which joins other hits like “How to Train Your Dragon” with 50% female viewers, and “Moana 2” with 71%. With this kind of interest, studios are feeling more confident about the future of theaters, especially after the challenges from COVID and industry strikes. Fans are also watching closely for the release of “Freaky Friday” starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan on August 8.

Looking closer at international markets, “Lilo & Stitch” has done especially well. It’s the highest-grossing movie of 2025 in countries like Mexico, France, Italy, Spain, and Brazil, as well as across Latin America. Mexico alone has brought in $66.1 million. Other top markets include the UK with $47.1 million, France at $39.8 million, Brazil with $36 million, Germany at $30.2 million, and China with $25.2 million. The film ranks among the all-time top earners in places like Brazil and Mexico and holds the record for the highest-grossing Disney live-action movie in Mexico and several smaller markets.

Domestically, “Lilo & Stitch” opened with an impressive $182.6 million over its first four days, making it the biggest Memorial Day weekend opening ever. This beats the previous record set by “Top Gun: Maverick,” which earned $160.5 million during Memorial Day weekend. It also has the second-largest four-day holiday weekend opening of all time, behind only “Black Panther”’s $242 million over Presidents’ Day weekend in 2018.

It made sense for Disney to create a live-action version of the 2002 animated “Lilo & Stitch,” which originally earned $145.7 million in the U.S. and $274.7 million worldwide. The franchise remains popular, with the original movie streaming for over 306 million hours on Disney+ globally. In total, the “Lilo & Stitch” series and original film have been watched more than 579 million hours on the platform.

Retail sales for Stitch have grown massively too, going from $200 million in 2019 to $2.6 billion in 2024, a tenfold increase. Stitch is now one of Disney’s top 10 evergreen franchises, all of which have made over $1 billion in retail sales last year.

Thanks to this huge success, Disney has already announced a live-action sequel is in development.

This data comes from reports by Deadline and other box office tracking sources, highlighting how “Lilo & Stitch” has become a major hit worldwide.
