Marvel Studios has numerous upcoming projects slated for release in the next few years, with many caught in limbo due to the impactful SAG-AFTRA strike that paralyzed the entire industry. Among these, the highly anticipated ‘Blade’ from Marvel Studios faced challenges even before the strikes. It’s an MCU-based movie featuring Eric Brooks, a prominent vampire hunter in comics, and serves as a reboot to the already popular ‘Blade’ trilogy that played a crucial role in bringing superhero movies to the mainstream.
Details about the ‘Blade’ movie are scarce, but Mahershala Ali proposed the project and is set to portray the titular vampire hunter. Originally scheduled for a 2023 release, the movie’s debut has been pushed to 2025, primarily because Ali expressed dissatisfaction with the script.
Recent rumors have surfaced, suggesting the complete cancellation of the project. This unexpected development has shocked fans who have witnessed the movie languish in development hell for quite some time.
In an EW interview, Mahershala confirmed the upcoming movie. It’s indeed happening, and we can all breathe a sigh of relief.
“We’re working on it. That’s the best I could tell you. I’m really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we’ll be back at it relatively soon. I’m sincerely encouraged in terms of where things are at and who’s on board and who’s leading the way as far as the writing of the script and the directing and all that. So that’s the extent of what I can tell you.”
A few weeks back, Yann Demange, the director of ‘Blade,’ officially announced that the movie will carry an R-rating. It becomes the second MCU film with this rating, following ‘Deadpool 3.’ Frankly, there’s no avoiding it; the movie necessitated that rating. While details on the plot and rating are still under wraps, it’s reassuring to know that they are actively working on it!
