The MCU is full of different characters that were all adapted from the Marvel comic books. Of course, these characters are unique from one another in the sense that they all have their character information and abilities. This is why it might be interesting for us to explore the character profile of some of the main MCU characters today.

1. Tony Stark/Iron Man

Character Information: Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man, was the man who launched the entire MCU with the very first MCU movie, Iron Man. As such, his contribution to the MCU cannot be discounted due to the fact that, without him, the entire MCU probably wouldn’t exist. Of course, he also plays a huge role as one of the leaders and most influential people in the Avengers.
While he is a regular human being, Tony Stark is a genius billionaire and is one of the most brilliant minds in the entire universe, especially when you consider his expertise in a lot of different fields of science. On top of that, he has all of the money and resources in the world to help him build some of the greatest gadgets and technologies in the MCU. This is why his Iron Man suit is powerful enough to stand up against some of the strongest characters around.
2. Steve Rogers/Captain America

Character Information: Steve Rogers started out as a regular human being that joined the military during World War II to help his country against Germany. However, because of his bravery, he was chosen to be the first super-soldier, as his body was augmented with a serum that allowed him to gain superhuman physical abilities. And because of his involvement during the war against Hydra, he is widely considered the first Avenger.
Also known as Captain America, Rogers spent his entire life as a hero. However, during the events of Avengers: Endgame, he eventually hung his shield up and retired when he decided to stay in the past after traveling back in time to return the Infinity Stones to their original timelines. He ultimately grew to become too old to continue on his career as Captain America.
3. Thor Odinson

Character Information: Thor Odinson was first introduced in the first Thor movie and has since been a staple in the MCU. He is widely considered as the Norse God of Thunder because of his ability to control thunder. Thor is also the heir to the throne of Asgard and is the de facto leader of the Asgardians after the death of his father, Odin.
Armed with his weapons Mjolnir and, later on, Stormbreaker, Thor is a fierce warrior that can be considered the strongest Avenger. He has the powers and physical abilities of a god and is one of the most powerful characters in the MCU. Of course, this is due in large part to the fact that he has been around for over 1,500 years and has capabilities that are augmented by his status as an Asgardian.
4. Bruce Banner

Character Information: Bruce Banner is one of the first MCU characters ever introduced because his movie came out after the first Iron Man. However, Edward Norton was eventually recast with Mark Ruffalo, who has played the role of Banner since the first Avengers movie.
Of course, Bruce Banner is also the Hulk. He got exposed to gamma radiation, and that gave him the ability to transform into a hulking green beast that has serious anger issues. It has since been shown that the Hulk is an entirely different person within Bruce Banner because he has the freedom to choose not to come out.
5. Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow

Character Information: Also known as Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff is the resident spy of the Avengers because her skills are suited for espionage and hand-to-hand combat instead of the straight-up combat skills that some of the other members of the Avengers have. She was a staple in the MCU until her death in the events of Avengers: Endgame.
Natasha’s history before she was trained to become a Widow is unclear. However, what’s clear is that she was brought up to be a Russian operative together with other little girls. As such, she has all of the skills of an assassin and a master combatant. She is also widely regarded as the greatest Widow ever produced.
6. Clint Barton/Hawkeye/Ronin

Character Information: Clint Barton is one of the first Avengers in the entire MCU and was introduced during the first Thor movie. Since then, he has been a staple in the MCU and has appeared in nearly all of the Avengers movies, except for Endgame. He also has his own spin-off show entitled Hawkeye.
As Hawkeye, Clint Barton is a master archer that hardly ever misses. He hardly needs to aim whenever he is shooting, and that makes him quite possibly the greatest marksman in the MCU. Barton had also shown his abilities as a close-combat fighter when he took on the mantle of Ronin during the five-year gap between Infinity War and Endgame.
7. Peter Parker/Spider-Man

Character Information: Quite possibly the most popular Marvel superhero, Peter Parker is the secret identity of the crime-fighting New York web-slinger, Spider-Man. Parker was introduced to the MCU during the events of Captain America: Civil War. He has since been a staple in the MCU and is one of the few characters who have at least three standalone movies.
Peter Parker gained his powers when he got bit by a radioactive spider. Because of that, he gained superhuman abilities that allow him to fight crime and even intergalactic aliens like Thanos. He eventually became the apprentice of Tony Stark, who took the young Parker under his wing and even gave him the Iron Spider suit that he was using during the events of Infinity War, Endgame, Far From Home, and No Way Home.
8. Doctor Stephen Strange

Character Information: Doctor Stephen Strange started out as quite arguably the best surgeon in all of New York. However, an accident made him unable to use his hands effectively, and this forced him to use any means to get his hands back. He ended up in Kamar-Taj, where he learned how to use the mystic arts under the training of the Ancient One. He has since been the strongest master of the mystic arts introduced in the MCU.
Doctor Strange is currently the protector of the New York Sanctum Sanctorum and lost his title as the Sorcerer Supreme to Wong during his five-year absence when he was one of the people who were snapped away by Thanos. He is set to become one of the central figures of the MCU moving forward due to his involvement in the multiverse.
9. Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch

Powers and Abilities: Psionics, mental manipulation, telepathy, magic
Character Information: Introduced during the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Wanda Maximoff and her brother, Pietro Maximoff, were members of Hydra who wanted revenge against Tony Stark for the death of their parents because of a Stark weapon. She got her powers due to Hydra’s experiment with the Mind Stone. However, she eventually became an Avenger when she switched sides after Age of Ultron.
Wanda Maximoff eventually began a romantic relationship with Vision, who got killed during the events of Avengers: Infinity War. Maximoff “resurrected” Vision in her spin-off series WandaVision, wherein she altered the reality of an entire town using her powers. It was during the events of WandaVision that she ultimately awakened to become the Scarlet Witch. As such, she is now one of the most powerful characters in the entire MCU.
10. Nick Fury

Character Information: Nick Fury is the father of the Avengers because he was the one who conceived the idea of bringing together Earth’s greatest superheroes under one banner. In fact, it was revealed during the events of Captain Marvel that he had already thought of this idea during the 90s but didn’t put it into motion until he met Tony Stark during the late 2000s.
Fury is also the director of SHIELD, which is a secret organization operating under the government. As such, he has one of the highest clearances in the entire country. On top of that, Fury is also a proven fighter, despite the fact that he is simply an ordinary human with no superhuman or extraordinary capabilities. But the fact that he is a great leader and a capable schemer is what makes him one of the most dangerous characters in the MCU.
11. Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel

Character Information: Carol Danvers started out as an ordinary human during her younger years, as she served as a pilot for the US Air Force. However, she was exposed to the lightspeed engine and to the energy of the Tesseract, and that allowed her to have the powers she possesses. She was eventually taken by the Kree named Yon-Rogg back to his home planet.
During the events of Captain Marvel, Danvers returned to Earth and reunited with her best friend Maria Rambeau and eventually regained her memories before she was taken to Kree. She has since been a staple in the MCU and is widely regarded as quite possibly the strongest superhero introduced in the MCU because she was able to easily fend off Thanos during their battle in Avengers: Endgame.
12. Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier / White Wolf

Character Information: Bucky Barnes is the childhood friend of Steve Rogers as they grew up together and even enlisted together during World War II. He became one of the soldiers under the command of Captain American but was believed to have died during the events of the first Captain America movie. However, he survived and eventually became the Winter Soldier, a brainwashed super-soldier assassin under the command of Hydra.
Barnes eventually got cured of his brainwashing and became a de facto Avenger. He worked together with Sam Wilson during the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a spin-off series starring the aforementioned characters who became close to Steve Rogers.
13. Sam Wilson/ Falcon / Captain America
Height: 5’10”

Character Information: Sam Wilson was introduced during the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier as a former military officer that specialized in using the mechanized wings that the Air Force developed. He has since been a member of the Avengers and was often working with Captain America, who became one of his best friends.
During the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes worked together to fight a group of super-soldier terrorists. It was also during that series that he accepted his role as the new Captain America, a title he was reluctant to uphold ever since Steve Rogers passed the shield onto him during the events of Endgame.
14. James Rhodes/War Machine
Height: 5’7½”
Age: Around 50
Relationships: Tony Stark (best friend)
Ethnicity: African-American
Powers and Abilities: Master combatant, weapons expert
Character Information: James Rhodes was introduced during the events of the first Iron Man movie, and that makes him one of the first characters of the entire MCU. He eventually became War Machine during the events of Iron Man 2 when he got hold of one of Tony Stark’s suits and modified it using Hammer Tech’s armaments. Rhodes was Stark’s connection to the military back when Stark Industries still developed weapons.
Since his appearance in Iron Man, Rhodes has been one of the staple characters in the entire MCU. And considering that he was introduced in the first MCU film, he and Nick Fury are now the longest-running MCU main characters.
15. Peter Quill/Star-Lord
Height: 6’1”

Character Information: Peter Quill is the de facto leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy and is a human that was abducted by Yondu during the 80s. He was raised by Yondu to be a ravager but was actually abducted because his father, Ego, hired the ravagers to do so. But because he was reluctant to bring Quill to Ego, Yondu raised him as his son.
Considering that his father is a Celestial, Peter Quill is part Celestial as well. That explains why he was able to survive the effects of the Power Stone during the events of the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Since his first appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy, he has been traveling with all of the other members of his ragtag group.
16. Gamora
Height: 5’6”

Character Information: Gamora was first introduced in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie and has since been a staple in the MCU as one of the main members of that group. She, together with Nebula, is actually the adoptive daughter of Thanos, who took her in after the Mad Titan massacred half of her people on her home planet. And since she joined the Guardians, she got romantically involved with Peter Quill.
The original Gamora is actually dead because Thanos sacrificed her in exchange for the Soul Stone. However, during the events of Avengers: Endgame, the Gamora of the past made her way to the current MCU timeline.
17. Scott Lang/Ant-Man

Character Information: Scott Lang is actually the second Ant-Man in the MCU because the first Ant-Man is actually Hank Pym, who invented the Pym particles that he uses to change the size of any matter. He was first introduced as a thief during the events of Ant-Man but was trained by Pym himself to become the new Ant-Man. And not a lot of people realize this, but he actually is quite smart because he has a master’s degree in electrical engineering.
During the events of Avengers: Endgame, it was revealed that Scott Lang was only in the Quantum Real for five hours, even though five years had passed in the real world. It was his discovery of the difference in time between the Quantum Realm and the real world that allowed the Avengers to find a way to go back in time using the Pym particles.
18. Hope Van Dyne

Character Information: Hope van Dyne is the daughter of Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne. However, her scarred relationship with her father made her use her mother’s maiden name instead. During the events of Ant-Man, she was the one who trained Scott Lang how to fight, while Hank trained the latter how to use the Ant-Man suit. Meanwhile, in Ant-Man and the Wasp, she was given the Wasp suit, which is basically a more advanced version of the Ant-Man suit.
Together with her entire family, Hope was snapped away by Thanos, as seen during the events of Ant-Man and the Wasp. It was due to the fact that Hope and her family were snapped that Scott Lang got stuck in the Quantum Realm for five years in real-time.
19. T’Challa/Black Panther

Character Information: T’Challa inherited the Black Panther mantle from his father and was introduced as the protector of Wakanda during the events of Avengers: Civil War. After the death of his father and following his defeat of Erik Killmonger, he became the uncontested king of Wakanda, an advanced yet hidden civilization that became as powerful as it is due to its mastery of the use of Vibranium.
It is still unknown who will take on the Black Panther mantle following the death of Chadwick Boseman, the actor who played T’Challa. However, it has since been confirmed by Kevin Feige that the role of T’Challa will not be recast. As such, it is expected that the MCU will eventually decide to kill off T’Challa.
20. Loki Laufeyson

Character Information: Loki is everyone’s favorite villain-turned-antihero-turned-hero in the MCU because of his charisma and charm. He is actually a Frost Giant prince who was taken in by Odin after he defeated the Frost Giants long ago. And thanks to his Frost Giant physiology and his Asgardian upbringing, he is basically a god in terms of his powers.
The main timeline Loki is actually dead, but there is a Loki variant that survived due to the events of Avengers: Endgame. That Loki became the star of the Loki series, wherein he got abducted by the Time Variance Authority and eventually worked with them to find a rogue Loki variant, who turned out to be a female Loki named Sylvie. In fact, it was actually Sylvie’s actions that brought about the rise of the multiverse in the MCU because she allowed the sacred timeline to branch out to different timelines to cause different universes to arise.
